Re: reading in maps
Absolutely, you could do either one, although using a scripting language would be a lot more involved. How you do it is really up to you and depends heavily on how your program is designed. A basic way of doing it however would be setting up your file so that each line is a tag (text string) followe...

Re: PEW PEW! SHMUP Game! Need Feedback
haha, nice. Was this crawling on your system?
The game does keep track of your health, and will output a console message when you "Die", but yeah, The only thing that happens when you die is you get your health restored.

Yeah, this is technology is pretty fresh. Google maps still shows a bank on the corner by my house that was demolished ~2 years ago.

Re: AI Design
Ok, not exactly that far just yet, but in a way you hit the nail right on the head. I guess I'm essentially asking "How do I get my enemies to SEE the player?" I suppose the easy answer would be what I presented in the OP, where you just update the enemy with the player location ever frame...

AI Design
I'm having an issue with the AI design of the SHMUP game I'm building at the moment and was hoping the community might have some insight or input to help me out. While planning out my AI procedures, I'm finding that for a lot of the functions I wan't to know the location of the player so that I can ...

Re: Rush - YYZ
It would still be a copyright issue but they probably would not detect it ;) However, a 13 min song without backing track... Yeah, I definitely hear you there... For the Dream Theater stuff you might be able to get away with session drummer if you don't mind programming in the relentless time signa...

Re: Rush - YYZ
Is it the difference between playing along, and playing it solo? There should be no problem with you posting it if it's just you covering the song and not having the original work playing in the video.

Re: Project Structure Help
Typically you should have a seperate .cpp/.h pair for each class. This will mean lots of #include lines as well as a robust list of project files, but that's ok! The benefits of doing it this way are: *It's easy to locate relevant data to your class *Makes it easy to debug an improperly applied scop...
