Re: How did you stumble across the Elysian Shadows Project?

I was looking for "how to get into game development" videos or something along those lines and that's where I stumbled upon this video: I found it through those videos too. Yeah, lots of people did... I honestly hate those videos. I hated making them, I hate watching them, and I don't eve...

This is so sexy. I wish the author were a female, so I could bang her. Very innovative.

Re: Simple 2D RPG Engine

You should really post an .elf, so that those of us with BBAs and coder's cables can test the executable. Are you far enough along to have considered render order and depth buffering for things like fences and trees, to give tiles the illusion of height/depth? Anyway, looking great! Keep us updated...

Re: HOW MANY Programming Languages have YOU learned?

Surely I can't be the only one who thinks this is pointless? As many of you have brought up, once you grasp core programming concepts (and to a lesser extent, certain programming paradigms), picking up a new language is just a matter of learning the syntax... I pull Python, Ruby, PHP, and various Un...

Yeah, I know for at least a little while we were both each other's top related channels.

Re: Game Maker as a Tool

I pretty much agree with what has already been stated... In the arrogance of my youth (lol), I definitely was guilty of turning up my nose at Game Maker "developers." In reality, it truly does depend on what your goal is. If you are just looking to pump out a quick game and aren't serious ...

Re: Audio Streaming

I'm looking for a general solution for capturing anything you can play on the PC. There are a lot of specific solutions that involve Playstation Media Server and similar technology, but I feel this will enable the headache of having to capture different streams for different services. Then you are ...

Re: Overworld Exploration Implementations - Your thoughts?

^ Yes, I agree with this. I don't think we should be drawing a distinction between 2D and 3D, especially since this topic seems to be open to either. This is more of a gameplay discussion, not a rendering/implementation discussion. Whether the camera allows you to see the horizon or not in a 3D engi...

Is a "Poke'mon-style" map not just the 2D equivalent of an "Open World" map like Elder Scrolls?

Shenmue III on the PS4?

Sony PlayStation 4 lead architect Mark Cerny and Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki have discussed strategy for Shenmue III at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. This was confirmed by GDC Events General Manager Meggan Scavio. Could this mean Shenmue III may finally get the green light on PS4? ...

Re: Overworld Exploration Implementations - Your thoughts?

This list is definitely not all-inclusive. What about RPGs like Secret of Mana or Final Fantasy 12 where the overworld and towns are all continuous maps, but they are not completely adjacent to one another, and are linked through "exit" areas? I tend to prefer this. Games with maps like Ze...

Re: Head Tracking VR Just Seems Off...

You're going to need to post a video or at least a screenshot of yours before anybody can help you (unless they want to start from scratch with your code, but ain't nobody got time for that...)
