Re: Why is it so hard to find Artists?

I think a lot of the problem stems from artists wanting to do their own game designs, they tend to become decent by practising - not something that tends to happen through working on an actual project. They just don't fit into the standard development team very easily, and I can understand why. Idea...

Re: New(ish) To game programming, Were to go next?

When learning, I would take an old, established game and add my own spin on it. It's vital to make a game that you want to play, so if you never liked an old game then you could put it right. For example, I made an Arkanoid game, but the most annoying thing about those games for me is the lack of co...

Re: Duke Nukem Forever Returns

If it offers the same sort of multiplayer shenanigans, then I'll be checking it out - purely out of respect for DN3D, I wasted countless lunch breaks owning work colleages at that :D. I want trip mines, pipe bombs, shrink guns and I want to squish people once they are shrunk. Not much to ask after w...

Re: What projects are you currently working on?

@mattheweston One thing I would suggest, is when affecting your balls speed, with those GameBallDirection variables, it might help if you check to see if they are bouncing the right way after a collision. For instance, if the ball hits something to the left, make sure that the GameBallDirection.X ac...

Re: First application you were proud of

The first proper app that I was proud off was an accessory on the Atari ST, it would turn the mouse pointer into the hand icon and let the user scratch at their screen, leaving bloody trails. Except if you include the app I made that inverted the mouse, so when you move up, the pointer goes down, th...

Re: Engine Mascots?

I've done something like that before, but the character was really more of a stand-in than a mascot - or I would have spent more time on him. It was a 3D RPG game and I wanted a real easy to use map editor so my younger brother and son could help design maps. So I made a little builder dude, with a ...

Re: What projects are you currently working on?

I'm mostly working on a dual format puzzle bubble style game, for PC and iPhone, and then hopefully the iPad. It's my first C++ project, and last week I got it to a demo stage with 25+ levels, waiting on feedback from the big cheeses. It's a fair bit into development now, hoping to have that wrapped...

Re: Txt based (dos) game

When you do away with visuals (well mostly), your game has to have a lot of depth to it, I mean look at that text based Dwarf Fortress game - it's insanely complex, with lots of possibilities and a strong sand box gameplay - it's kinda like Dungeon Keeper for haxxors. But at the same time, you can c...

Re: Post every time you beat a game.

BF:Bad Company 2, on 360.

Pretty decent single player campaign considering it's a heavily multiplayer centric game, obviously borrows a lot from COD, but was a fair length and posed a bit of a challenge sometimes.

Re: Blade Brothers Engine: Creating my first 2D Game Engine

I think your file format will go from neat and easy, to brutal rape in the course of that change. I hate doing anything with text,l spent the last 2 evenings making a bitmap text font system, and that drove me mad, not even saving data out or loading it in. This will sound daft, but can't you just i...

Re: First Console?

The Dreamcast is great, although both mine are pretty much dead now, I really got into UnrealTournament for it, wipes the floor with the PS2 version, used to play it split screen with 3 vs 3 bots. Obviously there's Quake3 Arena too, that is one hella pretty game on the Dreamcast, smooth as hell and ...

Re: Good Sprite Application

ProMotion is pretty good, not only for pixel art, but for 2D game elements in general.
Pixen on the Mac is good too, a little clunky but great once you get used to it.
