i believe in the way of the programmer. You can create the game and have it cool as long as you have enough of these. as far a learning the first programming language its more about preference then anything else. i like the OO design concepts better from c++ in my point of view but i do have to say from what i here about c its definitely not a dead language and if you prefer it, it is a good place to start.

I'm currently a computer science student and i do have to say that assembly language for me is a requirement. On another note i may take up computer engineering as well mainly because I'm a computer hobbiest so it sounds like it would be awesome.

Not a bad idea to map out how everything is going to go down. I sorta did the opposite, i had the writer of the game come up with story and a few details of the game like monsters and stuff. Then i sat down and started programming, whatever i thought the game needed i added and if i didn't like it i...
