Microsoft backs homebrew on the 360 100%

Post by skywalker541 »

Not only do they agree with homebrew. They are releasing the XNA SDK specifically for indie developers.

Too bad the only homebrew worth a damn on the 360 is the pirating.

It's nice, but the Dreamcast and Xbox can still outperform the 360. If you'll read, they're giving you C# support with absolutely no hardware rendering. You've got your 2D SDL/DirectX ports as well as your 3D games with software rendering (Doom 95). It'll be interesting when Dreamcast can't kick 360's ass in homebrew. I'm hoping somebody will find away around the stupid ass limitations, because as it stands it isn't even worth it.

Even the PSP supports homebrew better, and Sony is actively working AGAINST it.

Irony.

They've made alot of improvement to C# for this. As it is they've got it running 80% as fast as C++, and still making improvements.

360 hombrew will outperform the dreamcast. The indie Torque X engine is fully compatible and it uses hardware rendering. It's also available to buy for $100 if you didn't want to design a whole engine, and just make a game. Where did you read it doesn't support hardware rendering?
The program we are building, however, is more than a beginner tool. You will be able to write full-on games with shaders and high-end graphics if you want to go deeper. For example, we have an excellent relationship with Garage Games. They’ve been creating a managed code version of their tools and engines that work the XNA technologies. They’ve built a souped up version of Marble-Blast entirely in C# that is just rocking.

80% as fast? On windows C# is faster than C++. This is called being too lazy to give a damn about homebrewers. Or, as I like to say it--a publicity stunt.

1) The Torque X engine is targeted at 2D and very minor 3D games. There's a reason it only costs 100 bucks.

Oh yeah, marble blast! I can run that on a p700 with 256mb of RAM. Better known as the Xbox.

GG.

Last time I checked it was just a club that you had to pay a $100 membership to get into. As in, people have to join it to play your creations. But I could be wrong. I wasn't bothered enough to read the links you posted.

No, the 100$ is just for the SDK. Once the game is compiled you can play it on any 360.

I'm Done....

I'm done arguing with you guys about the Ps3. Its gonna flop, the 360 is better, there is really no point in debating on such a ridiculously obvious subject. I will not make any more posts, as far as I am concerned you guys can take your tweasers and jack off your microscopic weiners to your amazingly inferior $600 Sony piece of sh1t.

...I did not understand the arguement at all, but I'd get a PS3.
Oh, bye, douchebag.
PS. Our weiners are commonly mistaked for bazookas, so...

Except the 360 isn't "better" or anywhere close to "better". Graphically, the PS3 is better, game-wise Sony still has the backing of almost all the major companies, and quite a few exclusive titles to its name, and the 360 is gonna flop after people realize that it doesn't have anything to offer up except Halo 3.

The only thing that's obvious is that you're an idiot.

PS--it may be 600 dollars (or actually 500 dollars, if you don't want 1080p and instead can live with 1080i) but it'll still sell well. Sony will get more than enough sales to keep itself goin.
