Is FL Studio Express good for a beginner?
Well I'm thinking about getting FL Stdio Express since it's cheap. Would it be good for a beginner?

You want to make music?
There is no way to tell exactly what you're going to be good at using.
The best way is if you download a try before buy version, and check out some how-to reference.
If you like it, you can buy it.
Is FL Studio good software?
My personal opinion: Yes, I tried it. And it has potential.
Although I still recommend that you try it before buying, just so you don't get disappointed.

I did try it and I liked it but I can't try the reduced features of the express edition so I don't know what I will be missing if I buy the lesser version. I can look at the features but I don't really know what most of them mean.cypher1554R wrote:You want to make music?

I tried the demo once as I was looking for a way to add drums to my guitar riffs, but that whole layout and usage confused and scared me, so I uninstalled it and hid under my pillow until its temp files cleared my HD.
Dear god, they actually ported ES to a piece of celery!MarauderIIC wrote:You know those people that are like "CHECK IT OUT I just made Linux run on this piece of celery [or other random object]!!"? Yeah, that's Falco, but with ES.

Interesting. I might have to give this a try. Music is totally not my thing. It's a wonder I can even play Guitar Hero...
But, since my game is a one-man-show, I'll eventually have to tackle music in one form or another. Sounds like this might be worth a shot.

Typical dramatic RPG music. Ideally, I'd love to have composed remakes of the original soundtrack, but that's not going to happen.cypher1554R wrote:Okay.. What kind of music do you want to make..?
I've also thought about looking into the public domain selection...
Honestly, I'll worry about music much later in the process, but FL Studio sounds like it might be an option for me.

If you get familiar using FL Studio, then yes.. It can easily produce techno/dance sounds. It's almost like made for that. But for epic like Lord of the Rings, you might need some 3rd party orchestra plugin. Half Life 2.. If you have skills, yes.unholysavagery wrote:Techno / Game music / Epiccypher1554R wrote:Okay.. You can use FL Studio, Reason, any other music composing/producing software.. For RPG dramatic music there is something else needed badly.. skills -> especially if you're thinking in orchestrated direction.trufun202 wrote:Typical dramatic RPG music.

From experience FL Studio is a whole lot easier if you understand music theory. One you learn its layout it is a very simple and user-friendly tool to use, if you understand how chord progressions, melodies, and other things work. Really, a grasp on the basics of music theory helps a ton.

What I mainly want to know is if the express edition is good enough for me because when I look around people say to get the one that's $100 at the very least but that's starting to sound a bit high to me

Why don't you just download it, and decide if you want to buy it afterwards.

Re: Is FL Studio Express good for a beginner?
The demo has full features and the express edition has stunted features so there is no way I could know what features are important since I don't even really know how to make music. Which is why I'm asking.cypher1554R wrote:Why don't you just download it, and decide if you want to buy it afterwards.
