Whats the difference Between...

Post by davidthefat »

Computer Sciences and Computer Engineering?
Is sciences more about the fundamentals of computers like binary and hex and theories and is it more software based? and engineering is like more hardware and stuff?

I want to become a computer/game programmer when i grow up, so in highschool what sciences whould i take? (im currently a freshman)

An ever popular question that has been covered to death here: http://elysianshadows.com/phpBB3/viewto ... &sk=t&sd=a

And to answer your question fuck yes MIT is that hard to get into. I had a friend with a 4.4 GPA, all AP classes, PERFECTED THE ACT, and was treasurer of the student body--they rejected him.

They will reject you on the grounds of "not well rounded" if you're not the star of a sports team as well as academically perfect.

You'd better be sure you're in EVERY academic AND physical extra curricular activity there is, as well as have countless hours of community service, and a beautiful transcript.

Or, just be black, latino, or any other 'minority', and you're in with little to no problem...

MIT didn't give a crap about me even though I sent them my MrAdventure engine and finished HS with a 4.1, ACT 32(?)
I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.

My nerdy ass friend, whose only ambition in life is to move to Japan and become a video game engine programmer, was just accepted into MIT.

He's been taking Japanese classes for several years now so that he can move to the video gaming capital...

He had a 34 on ACT, which is nothing spectacular compared to other applicants...But his highschool is in the top 2% in the US, he had over a 5.0 GPA, and tons of AP classes...Though the real reasons he was accepted are simple:

1) He's latino(ish)
2) His dad graduated with honors and is still in contact with professors there.

What a bastard. I hate it when people are handed the things in life that others have to work hard to achieve.

Its the same kind of jealous that I get when super hot girls date guys that are worse looking than I am.

Haha, just to make you feel even better about yourself :) a friend of mine got a 1580 on the SAT and was disappointed in himself -- perfect score is 1600 for those not in the know, and you lose like a third of a point for wrong answers as well as gain a point for a right one. He goes to Vanderbilt.

Apparently it has. Well, it was 1600 at the time.

I would think that anybody that's not a white male has a much larger chance of acceptance. Be sure to mark your race and family income (but only if it's "low enough")
