Newspaper comics suck
And it's pissing me off. :P
The only GOOD one was Foxtrot, and that guy retired so he only does Sunday comics now.
Everything else is just ass. I used to read Zitz(sp?) but you get tired of every damn strip being about his parents complaining that he's lazy/messy/a teenager. Maybe it's because I'm not a parent, but it's sort of wearing thin. ;P
I used to read Boondocks, but I guess since there's the tv show now the guy stopped doing the comics.
Any opinions? Some of you may have some interesting local funnies, so it'd be interesting to hear.
Oh, and I find the "soap opera" comics hilarious. Who the heck keeps up with a story line when each chunk you get is like three frames??

Re: Newspaper comics suck
Aye, newspaper comics aren't what they used to be...
I haven't read any in awhile, I was always a huge fan of Charles Schultz and Jim Davis. Peanuts and Garfield is like a winning tag team!
I used to enjoy Funky Winkerbean, too. OH! And Slylock Fox rocks. B.C. has it's moments, too. And Andy Capp!
But it's a dying artform, it really is. Newspaper comic potential is really overshadowed by everything else...

Re: Newspaper comics suck
Wow, all of those that you mention I remember but NEVER see in the newspaper anymore.
Re: Newspaper comics suck
A lot of them just didn't stand the test of time I know after Charles Schultz died they pulled Peanuts for awhile, but then put it back in the syndication. I still see a Garfield from time to time, but yeah, I don't see any of the other ones either. Specially Funky Winkerbean, it was a comic for nerds =( A COMIC. FOR. NERDS.LusikkaMage wrote:Wow, all of those that you mention I remember but NEVER see in the newspaper anymore.

Re: Newspaper comics suck
Not just the comics, but newspaper as a whole. Its really a dying medium, its just not convenient anymore. Maybe 10 years ago while you could turn on the TV to get the news and use the newspaper to get more in depth stories, its not even like that anymore. EVERYTHING can be found much easier on the internet, including the comics.Andy K. wrote:Newspaper comic potential is really overshadowed by everything else...

Re: Newspaper comics suck
I remember that our paper use to have a Pokemon comic by some random artist, but it wasn't anything special or entertaining so it got canceled.
Re: Newspaper comics suck
I actually went to a place where they make the newspaper comics. I used to / and still want to become a comedian. Heres a joke I wrote (considering it is my best I doubt I should even try becoming a comedian.) I think it might be better as a comic but i suck at drawing. Here goes - "Did you hear about the explosion in gatesville? I did. I heard some think it was a missile, that was a relief I assumed Sarah Palin was trying to hunt!" That's the best i could come up with.

Without comics in the newspaper to keep you laughing, who'll buy? NewsPapers are epically failing....Andy K. wrote:Aye, newspaper comics aren't what they used to be...

There are no lulz to be found in newspaper comics these days.
Re: Newspaper comics suck
I really want to find somebody who lulz over newspaper comics and punch them in the face, for some reason this infuriates me... Kinda like getting enjoyment out of Bible cartoons on PBS.... How I lothe PBS...

Re: Newspaper comics suck
There have been a few Foxtrots that have warranted an out-loud "heh"
Re: Newspaper comics suck
That's not lulz though, I've smirked or went "heh", as well...LusikkaMage wrote:There have been a few Foxtrots that have warranted an out-loud "heh"
Re: Newspaper comics suck
I withdraw my statements about punching somebody in the face for lulzing over a newpaper comic... Because I just did... Baby Blues made me laugh audibly... Punches to the face on my own accord will be served... (still hate PBS though)

Re: Newspaper comics suck
Nobody's mentioned Calvin & Hobbes yet. I own a few books of them, and can make a reference once a month or so (when I had them pretty much memorized, it was daily). All you get about it on the internet is the cutesy things such as that dancing gif but I like the ones where, like, he has gross snowmen. :)
I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.
