Idea for wind energy.

Random irrelevance that just didn't fit into other forums. Talk about anything.

Idea for wind energy.

Post by Levio91 »

You know those poles that hold the power lines next to the road? Why not turn each of those into a windmill? Just run the wires through so they dont get hit by the blades.

That sounds like a pretty cool idea! Just saying, but I think this topic should go into the Science & Technology Discussion forum.
Even though this is a brilliant idea I bet that the government wouldn't try this because of money or some other lame excuse.

The problem is efficiency. Windmills have to be carefully placed at designated locations (where wind blows plenty, obviously), to get out of that investment as much as you can. Building a pole that holds it isn't all that a problem, it's the windmill itself with all the technical stuff inside that makes it expensive.

I have similar concept, but I think it would only work in a more financially stable period of time.

Instead of wind energy, you put solar panels (either for thermal or electrical energy) on top of people's houses, I'm sure it would eventually pay for itself.

I would put them on new houses, because when you think about it, if you're paying say £100,000 for a house, an extra 3,000 - 6,000 isn't going to hurt you too much, and in the long run, you're going to save money heating your home or powering it.

There are a lot of simple eco-solutions that could be theoretically implemented, it just makes you think really, how much we haven't done yet, which we could potentially do...

PS: this should go in science & technology, because it is a genuine eco discussing, of sorts

yeah, the sun really is the best option, however, i think fusion will be a reality in 35 year, (convieniently when fossil fuel will be depleted), if if we have fusion, the sing could explode and we would still have enough resources to keep the planet warm and power everything on earth.

lol good fix, Marauder. But yeah, wind energy on electric poles just would not work well enough. Wind would have to be blowing exceptionally hard, you don't realize how much power we actually use in our everyday lives. It's astounding.

actually the wond doesent need to be blowing hard.
but electric poles wont do it, they are not structurally sound enough, nor high enough.
1 windmil produces about 2.5 mega watts a day. if memory serves me correctly.
which is a shit ton. considering a big house suses about 15 kilowatt a day.
