How much could I expect to make with a 4-6 year comp science
How much could I expect to make with a 4-6 year comp science degree? I got accepted to this college "http://www.umhb.edu/". But It will cost 25,000 dollars a year (maybe semester I cant remember). I will probably have to get over 100,000 dollars in student loans. How much should I be making? I need to know so I can figure out how long it will take me to pay off the loans.

~45-65k? Does that sound right, gentlemen? I'm looking around ballpark range for a starting engineer... as I'm not so knowledgeable about "Computer Science."
Re: How much could I expect to make with a 4-6 year comp science
I want to do computer science courses, They offer 3 specializations. Network security, Object-Oriented programming, and Games programming.
Network security - Im not sure what this is. Maybe stopping hackers?
Object oriented programming - Not sure what this is
Games programming - I think this is specifically for game making.
I can do any of those. Im confused

25k a year is ALOT of money for school. I'd shop around. You can probably finish your prereqs at a junior college for pretty cheap, then transfer your credits to a university. I wouldn't recommending starting your adult life 100 grand in dept - regardless of what you make per year... (Trust me, there's plenty of other stuff that'll get you in dept!) :PLevio91 wrote:I want to do computer science courses, They offer 3 specializations. If you do decide to go to this college, I'd recommend the object oriented route - you can apply that to anything (web development, business apps, gaming, etc.)
And yeah, out of college I'd say you could expect 50-65k.

Yeah, I also think 100k is bullshit. By the way, there's a degree in Object Oriented Programming? What the hell? What exactly do these "specializations" mean? You're getting a CS degree regardless, I don't know that I would even want to specialize. Sounds like it would limit your work opportunities.

Yeah... my college is about $4,500 a semester. Albeit, it's not a fancy school, but it'll get me a job.
Re: How much could I expect to make with a 4-6 year comp science
Thats what the book says. I get a 2000$ a semester scholarship and I haven't got my grants information yet.GyroVorbis wrote:Yeah, I also think 100k is bullshit. P.s. all that 25k a year includes dorm and meals.
P.P.S. heres the cost sheet. http://www.umhb.edu/parents/financialai ... sheet.html Did I do my math wrong Im not exactly sure what this stuff means.

Why not just mooch off parents for free room and food, and commute to school?

Smartest thing you can do. You aren't going to miss anything. Go party at your friends' houses, and have sex in your car.trufun202 wrote:werd. I lived at home through college. I had fun and survived.LusikkaMage wrote:Why not just mooch off parents for free room and food, and commute to school?

Re: How much could I expect to make with a 4-6 year comp science
*I left a message before, but oddly it didn't show up*
In the UK our fees our capped (this year it's about £3,200 I think), so it doesn't matter where you go, you pay the same price, it's intended to allow you to go to cambridge or oxford(if you were smart enough) even if you're not a millionaire (or have millionaire parents).
Oh! and if you live in Scotland, university is free! (actually loads of stuff is free in Scotland, funded by the UK government) But I don't live in Scotland.
It's interesting how universities differ in different countries
Another advantage is that each course also costs the same per year, so there's not much to really restrict you from studying 3,4 or 5 years (doing say a degree or a masters)
So it's not too shabby

my secondary school in England (would be middle school in US I think) costs £13,800 per year ( about $22,300 ) so are these fee cappings only for university.
I'll make your software hardware.

Re: How much could I expect to make with a 4-6 year comp science
well I went to normal secondary school (the one the government pays for) so I didn't pay anything to go there!thejahooli wrote:my secondary school in England (would be middle school in US I think) costs £13,800 per year ( about $22,300 ) so are these fee cappings only for university.
College/sixth form is also free (unless you go to the sixth form attached to your current school I guess if they already charge you)
University will always cost something in the UK, but you sort that out by getting a loan from StudentFinanceEngland, which is the government funded finance company (even though you can get a loan at any pay grade, I believe grants stop at your parents earning £60,000, but that isn't really a problem for most)
Currently, all universities in the England charge maximum of something like £3,000 (except for privately funded ones), in the end it all boils down to this, you don't have to pay out any money during university, but you do have to pay it back afterwards, but only when you start earning more than £15k
Fair is fair, I think it's a pretty good deal
God I love the uk
