The only thing it has going against it is the fact that it has an OS running constantly and does some really fucked up things with memory management and how programs work, whereas the DC didn't have such issues.GyroVorbis wrote:The specs beg to differ. The GPU is a pimped to fuck Dreamcast with hardware T&L and everything DC had (including things like bumpmapping and modifier volumes that PSP/PS2 couldn't dream of) but a lower fill rate (smaller screen).deryni21 wrote:hmmmm it's definately better then a ds and a psp but combined nahGyroVorbis wrote:I found this actually pretty damn funny:

First Sega's president tells us that the iTouch is on par with the Dreamcast. Then Carmack comes out bitch slaps the PSP and DS by saying that the iTouch is more powerful than the two combined and is on the DC's level.
For those of you who didn't know, Carmack was responsible for the Dreamcast port of the Quake 3 Arena, which has been hailed as one of the best PC to console ports ever. The game looked better than PC, ran at a perfect 60fps, was online, supported mouse and keyboard (and still does, I play on Dreamcast online from time to time), and even allowed for 4 player split screen.
Even more interestingly is the fact that the iTouch/iPhone's GPU is made by none other than .... POWERVR! I didn't even know that. The GPU is a later generation of the Dreamcast's own GPU (powerVR2DC). Sega even announced that they are looking into porting several DC games to it.
It's such a fucking shame that Apple decided to embrace Objective C/++ and force that upon its developers. Otherwise I would immediately hop on the iPhone/iTouch bandwagon, as I have experience with the PVR and would looove to broaden my horizons to such a badass platform.
i 've got to say though ipod touch
But yeah, it is a pretty badass little machine.
