Open Sourcing The Mainstream Gaming Community

Post by davidthefat »

I know there are mods and stuff for PC games that can change the whole game, but I got an Idea. A game that runs almost fully on mods. So you just put the mod file in a usb and stick it in your ps3 and the ps3 loads it and plays it. That wont be that hard to make. Just a PC editor and the game/mod loader. the mods are made by the editor (Editting all things from meshes to sounds and like in RTS games, triggers. ) so you can make a FPS for Vietnam or Iraqi war. or any... The mods are then packaged into a .mod (or any other extensions) and the parts of the game that arent editted are then replaced by the default files and then put into the file system and a file witht he location of the mod file is placed in a folder in the ps3 that is desinated for those files and the loader then loads the game according to the files... Unreal 3 has a similar system but I mean almost no limit to what you can edit. All high level programming if needed, no low level programming. Never played LBP but isnt the editor limited and in game? So this game will sell like crazy, free mods and maybe official mods that are professionally done are like $3 a peice...

I know exactly whats going on in you mind... Exploits: well if the game is well programmed and have very strict limited usage of some of the important stuff will prevent exploits IMHO

The reason why I think its a good idea is because lots of epic games fall short of some people's expectations, like needs more weapons, better levels, game too short ect... this will allow those people to make their own game to fit their preferences. Even groups might even contribute to the Big project... Yes sounds alot like linux, and Im using linux, but I think open sourcing in the mainstream game community will help alot...
