As for the OP, the only thing I've really done is say "lol" instead of laughing.
I've had a friend once who lol'd instead of laughing, and he didn't even speak English when he did so it was darn annoying.

My friends an I say lol and rofl sarcastically or after we make fun of darren (we do that a lot)... I use programming references in everything I do actually... Math, english, biology, pretty much everything but spanish, you can't add to something you don't understand in the first place...
most of these behaviors are not nerdy, just annoying.
I find most nerdy tendencies of people insanely irritating. I actually dropped a unit because the first day in class I heard nothing but rofls, lols and talk about the human brain being a bio-computer repeated over and over. I like to think I'm an open minded sort of person, but I just don't get it. Simpson quotes also seem to be a pet peeve of mine. It seems like something nerdy people insist on gaining encyclopaedia like knowledge over as well. I don't like how memes constitute humour either, use your imagination and make up an original joke every once and a while.
Just to clarify I have a nerdy side as well, after all I code and I hate to sound like a raging bastard. Just expressing my opinion, don't take it personally anyone.
You know what's even worse than all that??? My friends having nerd fights over DnD and other such stuff... OMG Nathan and Darren can go at it all day! If something gets started I have to remind Darren that Nathan is right... Usually if he's not right he admits up to it, but Nathan rarely argues unless he's proving Darren wrong (and Darren is wrong a lot...)
There's really no fine line between the two, but I agree.
