Look at the PixelJunk franchise... that's all 2D gaming and it's beautiful!
2D gaming, especially RPGs, I don't plan on going away.
The whole 2D aspect to RPGs take you back to the old days of the first Final Fantasy games and others like Chrono Trigger and Legends of Mana.

I would love to play a 2D RPG again... I mean even Pokemon... some games are just meant for 2D, however 3D is still nice for games. I don't plan on playing a shooter in 2D ;)
There's no place like ~/

Lionhead Studios, of Fable fame, are based in the UK. In fact, they even sponsored a 16-18 programming competition which I entered and have yet to hear back from, and their office is in a city which I may be moving to next year :)
That sounds pretty sweet! ;)
I'll definitely attend this when I'm 16. By then I'll be more experienced. ;)

Wait, was this like an expo, or was it just a one time thing?
It's called an Olympiad or something. They have them for Physics and other subjects too, you have to do it through your school/further education institute and you usually do the first round in about November. The first round is just a 3-program, 3-hour exam-like paper which you complete under test conditions in your school :P See if you can beat my score of 60 :)

2D will never go away in the game industry for 2 reasons, it is the roots of gaming and it simply requires less memory to draw 2d sprites then 3d objects, that allows more and more thing to be drawn in 2d.

Yes, 2D rpg will never go away... it better not. I would be angry, sad, confused, pissed, depressed, and did I say angry? 2D rpgs are things I grew up with, they are like the foundation of todays games. It can't go away.

Precisely... RPGs (be them videogame or tabletop) inspired pretty much every mathematical aspect of game... Damage is calculated for most games like an RPG, and developers realize that leveling systems make the player feel accomplished and gives them a goal. And they realize that RPGs are just fucking badass :D
