Re: Apple are being even bigger dicks now
Now this is low. Apple has been pretty asshole-ish already when it came to iPod development, but seriously? I didn't think that even they would make such a ridiculous move. I suppose that was foolish.
But I have to say, what the FUCK, Apple?

Quit procrastinating and make something awesome.

Sadly, I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner. That's what I've come to expect from apple, which is sad.

Re: Apple are being even bigger dicks now
Is this even legal? Couldn't it be called monopolistic/anticompetitive to some degree?
I love Mac OSX. I love the ipod. I love most of what Apple creates. However, the way Apple acts absolutely disgusts me, and I'm shocked they still get away with it. I can live without what Apple produces and as such I don't own anything created by them.
"Apparently" this is the reason for the block. For me, I'd say Apple is hitting two birds with one stone. Awfully convenient, eh?

Re: Apple are being even bigger dicks now
what I can say is this move doesn't affect me in the slightest, since I don't follow any of the developer clauses anyway. But this is gonna hurt a lot of people, especially those that use Unity3D and titanium.

Re: Apple are being even bigger dicks now
Seriously, I don't fucking understand their motives. What do they gain from this?
Are you fucking serious? The new rule also rubs out any hope for Java or Silverlight/Mono as a common denominator for building mobile apps, preventing developers from coding apps using Java or C#/.NET and then just cross-compiling them into iPhone apps using a "translation or compatibility layer."
I have a hard time believing that they would make such a drastic move to prevent some shitty flash ports.Apple's move apparently comes in a defense strike against Flash app shovelware, which threatens to water down the original content in the App Store with lots of existing, poor quality Flash games originally designed for the web or other mobile platforms and rebaked to work on the iPhone.

I'm just hoping this will blow over and they don't go through with it... because that's just sickening.

Re: Apple are being even bigger dicks now
Hah, thank god I'm not a huge contender of the whole JIT/VM compilation scene. The Android forces you to do that, while the iPhone forces you to develop natively. Pretty funny, really.
I don't see that Lua wouldn't still be legit, though. The interpreter is straight, ANSI C, and the scripts are just assets just as images and audio are for an app.

I don't see why Apple doesn't let people do what they want with their own apps/device.
If they purchased it, why not give them free reign over what they do with it?

yeah especially since they can block said shitty games at the admission stage.Arce wrote:I have a hard time believing that they would make such a drastic move to prevent some shitty flash ports.Apple's move apparently comes in a defense strike against Flash app shovelware, which threatens to water down the original content in the App Store with lots of existing, poor quality Flash games originally designed for the web or other mobile platforms and rebaked to work on the iPhone.
Lua is an interpreter the same way JVM is, it allows you to write one set of code and run it on any platform the VM is on.GyroVorbis wrote:Hah, thank god I'm not a huge contender of the whole JIT/VM compilation scene. Re: Apple are being even bigger dicks now
haha, so much animosity toward Apple in here.
Man, sucks to be a Flash developer. It's a bit "Aryanistic" of Apple to ban things that don't work as well on their hardware. As much as I dislike this, I agree with it. I see this as something more about Apple bullying Adobe, than anything else.

Re: Apple are being even bigger dicks now
I wouldn't have a problem if this were just between Apple and Adobe, but this clause is universal, and it seems as though Apple is hurting thousands of innocent developers. JIT compilation/embedded interpreting goes FAAAAR beyond Adobe's technology to translate shitty Flash games to the iPhone--that's an entire group of developers and software that aren't written natively in C/++ or ObjC.Innerscope wrote:haha, so much animosity toward Apple in here.
