PulseEdit Map Editor

Post by Bullet Pulse »

This is my first map editor, constructive criticism welcomed! :)
http://www.box.net/shared/0thp157v7a

It supports any screen size, and will not crash.

Note that the cursor is hidden in the following screenshots.

Loading it the first time makes a config file as seen here:
Image

Loading it with a config file present automatically loads the map as seen here:
Image

Map is saved in a grid format

The boxes you are going to edit are highlighted, if they aren't highlighted, you won't edit them.

No pictures or instructions? I tried to use it after reading the Readme, but it just closed itself. How about an example configuration so I at least know what to input?

no offense, not really into downloading executables. That said, a youtube video would be nice of you demonstrating it, that way we can all provide feedback without downloading it, figuring it out, etc...
My github repository contains the project I am currently working on,

I've updated the editor so that there should be no crashing at all, and if the tilesheet name is wrong then it will ask you for a new one before initializing SDL.
Even a dummy could figure out how to use it :) . I've added pictures at the top^.

Yea, exactly. The button images come straight from her editor and the UI is similar to it too.

I ran it, took me half an hour to figure out how to properly type the name of the tilesheets, then when I finally got it right, it crashed.... you might wanna work on some instructions, if its so simple I should be able to use it...

Edit: Its because theres no damn hello.txt in the folder.. >.>

Here's an example of what you can type in:

If that doesn't work, let me know. ;)

I'm actually planning to make a small RPG in which I'll be able to import the maps made from this program,
and possibly have some enemies you can fight (so I can learn about AI).

I'll probably update the editor once I start making progress on the RPG
so that I'll be able to add enemy spawns, item spawns, and warps with the editor.

Maybe I'll get round to making that totally cool editor I have stuck in my head, impatiently waiting for me to get my arse in gear and design the thing!

Your editors looking good, like many people, I'm not hot on downloading .exe's, but A YouTube video would be a great, from what I see, it looks like a pretty good editor :)

Also, I see what everyone means, very MusuGo like indeed, at least from what I can make out on the screen caps
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think I can program pretty well, it's my compiler that needs convincing!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And now a joke to lighten to mood :D

I wander what programming language anakin skywalker used to program C3-PO's AI back on tatooine? my guess is Jawa :P

For all who are scared from .exes, I downloaded it, ran it, etc. no viruses or anything (I have McAfee (legal))

I like the brush size thing... I'm going to steal it :P

EDIT: Epic post count.
