So here I am wondering what to get. I'm leaving for uni in around 4 months and have to apply for a room now, but I'm torn!
I can choose between sharing a bathroom, or having an ensuite room for quite alot more rent. Also, is it worth having part-catered (ie 2 meals a day free), or just staying self-catered?
To the people who are in / have been to college/uni, what are your opinions on this?

Re: Uni Accommodation
in short, this is what I would do if I could go back again and choose.
en-suite, self catering.
If you want me to elaborate on why I say that, then just ask, I'm not going into the melodrama which is my university existence unless you want me to

I think I can program pretty well, it's my compiler that needs convincing!

And now a joke to lighten to mood :D

Re: Uni Accommodation
In my time living out of home and going to uni I haven't ever had nor needed a bathroom to myself. But then again I would probably be comfortable living in a shed if it had running water.
Food! As a student you don't have a lot of time to cook/don't want to spend your time cooking. You will be inclined to spend all your money on booze so having someone else worry about your eating habits/making sure you actually eat is good. I would typically eat a meal a day when living out of home and don't recommend it.is it worth having part-catered (ie 2 meals a day free), or just staying self-catered?

I chose to share a bathroom (and shared but separate showers)RyanPridgeon wrote:I'm all earsprogrammerinprogress wrote: If you want me to elaborate on why I say that, then just ask, I'm not going into the melodrama which is my university existence unless you want me to

There wasn't an option to be catered, but I like shopping for my own food.
Also, I live in a terraced house as opposed to halls, but I'm still on the campus.
My house is probably about 100 years old, and the plumbing must be near that, the toilets are pretty terrible, and it's kind of annoying sharing toilets with people who never restock the toilet rolls and sometimes end up dropping them in the toilet because they don't know how to change the holder
Everything in the house is communal, between 6 people, it's actually not a bad environment, 6 is a bearable amount of people to live with, we have an illegal too (by which I mean a person who has moved into our house, who doesn't go to our uni or pay rent) and that's kinda annoying, but I'm biting my tongue since we're moving out in a month.
Remember something when you go into uni accommodation, the people you live with, they won't make any effort to clean or put things where they're meant to be, unless they really have to, that can be a bit annoying sometimes, especially when you wake up and there's food in the sink, and there's bowls and glasses covering the work surfaces!
But still, living on campus is fun, it takes me about 5 minutes to get to my lectures, so that more than makes up for having to put up with the mess
SOMETHING ELSE I THOUGHT OF LATER!
-- I bought a fridge for my room, it's very useful when the communal fridges start to get full, now it's suddenly became hot, it's stocked up with lots of juice and bottled water, I keep my beer in there too.
