What Computer OS

Post by Zardaa »

I'm here to take a vote...Ubuntu 10.04 has been shitty with my computer...What is a linux distro that is good, staying inside the Xubuntu, Kubuntu, and Ubuntu area, my computer has a 3gig processer and 1gig ram

ANY! I have had some major problems with a bunch of distros when it comes to graphics (intel gfx card  ), but ubuntu 9.10 works fine. I'd recommend Arch if you wanna learn more about linux, and there are numerous others for all kinds of applications. I think that nearly all of them should be able to easily run with a 3GHz processsor and a GB of ram.

You've got a 3ghz computer with only 1 gig of ram...
I have a 2.1 ghz processor with 3 gigs of ram on my laptop... even my old 60 gig hard drive 1ghz processor had 2 gigs of ram

I'm assuming your laptop is either an Intel Core 2 Duo, or maybe even one of the newer celerons...And you're talking about DDR2 or even DDR3?

And I'm going to assume he's running a P4. If this is the case, you're talking about entirely different technology cycles...Comparing is like apples to oranges.

Or, maybe you're not? Spewing clockspeeds and gigabytes of ram doesn't account for much without knowing the type/processor... ;)

Seriously? I'm running Kubuntu (with all of the cute 3D OpenGL effects) on some piece of shit 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 processor with like 2 gigs of RAM. Runs very well.

I would guess the bottleneck is your RAM. Grab another gig and stick it in. A gigabyte stick is cheap these days (especially for old PCs).

Hmm... Ubuntu ran fine for me when I only had 1gb of RAM. Very strange.

i7-720QM. At first I was really skeptical about the 1.6ghz base speed since I don't know much about hardware, but I fucking love it.
