New Consoles coming when?

when do you guys think that next gen will be possible and if it does happen whats gonna be the pc standard?

I feel that the gap between consoles will be the longest we've experienced in quite a while. Consoles have been following a ~5year gap pretty consistently: 90-91 for Genesis & Super Nintendo, 95-96 for Playstation & N64, 00-01 for Xbox Gamecube and PS2, 05-06 for 360 ps3 and wii. Theoretically, this year and next would be the year to launch new systems, but I highly doubt it will happen. Nintendo has the 3ds coming out but we aren't really talking about handhelds here I assume. I feel that with the increase in popularity of downloadable addons and completely downloadable games in general, the big three have decided to put more focus in the software and peripherals rather than completely replacing the base console. I predict that we will not see another big console such as PS4 or xbox 720(or whatever the hell they will call it) for another 2-3 years at least. That's just my two cents though.

While we were already pushing the Wii to the limits the day it came out, I don't think that we're even particularly close on the 360 and especially not the PS3.

The capabilities of the consoles of this generation aren't far behind from PC gaming at the moment, so I think we'd need a fairly dramatic leap forward in both hardware and software to be able to get to the point where the new consoles can be called a whole new "generation". The 3DS will definitely be next gen, but other companies would really have to step up their game to keep up to gamers' expectations of improvement.

from the original launch of xbox 360 or original. cus its 10 years from the original. but 360 has 5 years to go.

You realize Sony JUST started actually getting profit from PS3s... They have been losing money on teh PS3 since day one, it was meant to be a very long term commitment, thats why the PS3 was made so advanced, they wanted it to last longer than 7 years.

Here I'll answer it for you.

I think that the next generation will be possible in the next generation.
And I think the PC standard will continue to be the PC standard because unless consoles have a fully open standard, PC will reign over that, among other reasons.

2d screen is fine with me. but we have to see how the 3ds turns out.

I think the fact that the Wii couldn't at least do 720p already was completely fucktarded.
