Lacks any form of shading or contrast.
The shapes are inorganic and have ugly edges between them.
Try harder.
Troll harder. Btw I have your mom's panties, could you give them back to her?
/trolling
I would be trolling if I said it was a fantastic sprite.
Start out by changing the colors. Try changing all of the colors to be extremely vivid and ultra-lifelike. When choosing different shades, do not stick to the same hue - instead interpolate the hue slightly while you change value - usually going towards dark blue/purple looks good.
Add interesting edges to body. Go study the human body and exaggerate some of the features you see - either with an outline or in the shading. When dealing with pixels, it is very important to exaggerate. Also add in large clothing features -for example a big belt, large pockets, or any sort of defining characteristic.
Also, use organic shapes. Round circles and rectangles look bad, as does perfect symmetry.

Other than this statement good.
I wasn't saying you should tell him his art is great if you don't think it is. I was saying don't be so blunt. Give him help, more detail like you've done. You can say someone's art sucks balls, just give them some help on improvement. Like right now I'm telling you I think your original reply to this thread sucked balls and I gave you some advice on improving it xD
i think you need to make the top and pants different colours, it will be a lot easier to see whats going on there.
also its still too flat. even if you have been shading it (which when i zoom in it looks like you are trying) the difference between the colours needs to be greater. eg dark blue and light blue, not dark blue and slightly less dark blue.
how are you at traditional art and drawing. eg light sources and sketching a sphere with a pencil or charcoal. have a think about there the light source is and how the light catches the features eg eyebrows/nose etc. make the body more rounded
use google images search and search spritesheets. you get some awesome ideas there. save a couple of them you like the look of, and zoom right in and look at the details.
you cant see the belt in the side-on views
the hair in the side on ones doesnt seem to match the front on views (it looks more like some weird smurf hat)
but it looks like you are slowly progressing

TREE!:
What ya fink?
I actually really like the leaves. The trunk could use some work though.
+1. The leaves are realistic, but the trunk is too smooth, and the bottom looks like you tried to add roots, but didn't do very well with it If you need inspiration on roots, I have no doubt there are about a billion and a half pictures you can use for reference, drawn or otherwise
Quit procrastinating and make something awesome.

I'm thinking on the roots thing he was actually going for like grass or something, so it looks like there's grass in front of it when he lays it on the map.
