Re: My first game: A Zombie RPG
hey guys , i got all the turret art and player art animation in now and i am really pleased with the results. I put a quick video up of the turrets, its not very flattering to the animation though, the screen cap misses a lot of the frames on the machine gun turret. Also I have tweaked a ton of stuff i wont even start to list all the small stuff.
The game is currently in playtest and im finishing up the online multiplayer coding this weekend, hoping to have a final release done by monday morning before work
per recent development in the forums i am hesitant to say this, but, let me know what you think
also, yes the song was a joke.

Re: My first game: A Zombie RPG
Wow. I was thinking those weapons were pretty cool on their own but now in turret form they look really cool! They seem a little overpowered though, so what you might want to look at is having a turret upgrade system, with less cooldown/more power for each level. But aside from that, really awesome!EdBoon wrote:hey guys , i got all the turret art and player art animation in now and i am really pleased with the results. Re: My first game: A Zombie RPG
dude i love what you have done, but is there any way to make the ground tile less repetitive ? like adding a couple more variants of the grass tile and alternating them ?

Re: My first game: A Zombie RPG
I completely agree with you with the grass. Problem is the artist has done SO much for me i would hate to continue to ask more, and I cannot modify them i have tried, bad idea. Not really sure what to do about them, to me they seem too 'busy' and detailed. Would it be easy for someone that knows what they are doing to tone it down a bit and get rid of the tile look to them?k1net1k wrote:dude i love what you have done, but is there any way to make the ground tile less repetitive ? like adding a couple more variants of the grass tile and alternating them ?
Anyway, I made a lot of changed, revamped the entire online multiplayer code, things are going pretty well. I put a video up of the first couple stages, added code for 'plot events' even thou the script isnt completed yet and I don't want to put it in videos anyways at the moment. Below is the video if your interested!
Oh just a side note: E. DUCKS GYROBALL GAME IS IN FINAL REVIEW WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! (if you have an xna membership i suggest you review it, theres a ton of games sitting waiting for testing due to the 3.1 deadline)
EDIT: what do you guys think about the in game music? think it goes well with the atmosphere? im thinking faster pace music for the bosses.

This is sweet! I'm loving the progress man, last time I checked up, the chain lightning was having issues, it's awesome to see it working with turrets.

AMAZING!!!!!111!!!11
I remember when this project was in it's early stages. I can't believe what you have done with it!
The blood splattering effect when you kill a zombie is awesome! Did you use a particle system for it? Or is it just part of a sprite image or something?

Re: My first game: A Zombie RPG
Thanks so much guys! I've been meaning to tell everyone but I couldn't log in for a while. It's in the marketplace!! It was released last Friday. it was actually in the top 10 downloaded for like 5 days so it had a decent start. I am in the process of patching it because the online multiplayer has been seeing some bugs that I hadn't seen during testing. Mostly becasue I was testing with one other person and the problems occur when 4 xboxs are linked up at a time.
Because this was my first game, my main goal on this project was to learn and become a better programmer. But I also had a financial goal as well to break even on everything, which was developer fees, art, and the contest prizes. Good news is i broke even in 4 days!! woo.
I really need to thank this forum. I have not been active the last 6 weeks because I was going through peer review and it failed like 4 times and I was spending every second in the XNA forums to figure out my problems and schedule playtests and stuff like that. I honestly don't think I would have completed the project if I wasn't active here. It was the place I went with questions, to look at other developers and their projects, to hear about how peoples projects were going, and to get a feeling that yes other people spend hours upon hours coding and can be very rewarding. So thank you all very very much.
Also I would like to thank the Elysian Shadows team as a whole for their project videos. They were a great motivating factor and really liked some of the tutorials because learning is a great motivator as well. In fact the reason I started game dev was because of falco's videos intro to game dev. I could go on forever thanking people involved in this site.
I have one last video to post for this project the release video. It has been incredibly exciting and if anyone is curious about the xna developer process, please feel free to email me (jamesonisu@gmail.com) or get a hold of me on here. I would love to help.
Also I am having this competition where people can win a Kinect if they get the highest score on the leaderboard ending Monday. If you're interested some details here http://bigrookgames.com/UEContest
The purpose of this was to try and bring more people into the community that otherwise wouldn't be going into the independent games section, also it prob doesn't hurt sales either
Summary:
THANK YOU!
EDIT** Oh yeah! --> http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Produ ... 0258550829

Re: My first game: A Zombie RPG
it would be awesome if you posted an update in a month or so and tell us how the games is going.
great work, glad you broke even at least, and hope you make a bit of extra cash along the way.
