I Know Why You Love Dreamcast
I figured it out. I finally understand why you love it so much.
I went to Rhino the other day with about $20 in my electrical tape wallet.
I went to the back of the store, where all the Dreamcast games are.
Looking at them, I realised just how many DC ports of PC games had been
made. I saw Rainbow Six, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Worms, and a bunch
more. Then I looked at the DC games that had been ported to new consoles.
Space Channel 5, Ecco the Dolphin, along with many Resident Evil games.
Then, (BUM, BUM, BUM!) I looked at the prices.
Crazy Taxi - $6
Quake 3 Arena - $13
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater - $5
Insane, these prices are SO low.
Then, I look at the back of the box at screenshots. Most of them are PS2 quality graphics.
Finally, I remember that DC games can be copied, (I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.) and that DC roms can be found and burned.
I love the Dreamcast. I plan to spend every dollar I make on DC games.
I ended up buying Shenmue for $8, Ecco the Dolphin for $16, then because I bought two used old games, I got another game free, which I chose to be Toy Commander.
Sadly, only two stores that I know of sell DC games now: Rhino and Gamecrazy. I guess I will have to look online for DC games in the near future.
If anyone knows where I can download DC roms, or knows any good places to buy Dreamcast games, please tell me.

This is a joke about unfunny jokes. And bad use of irony.

tru dat.
Although I can't permit talk of warezing DC games here, I assure you that the games are great. DC can pull PS2-ish graphics wonderfully, as a matter of fact Shenmue II and Sonic Adventure II exceed PS2 almost pathetically.
My main infatuation is the games. I mean, look at the power and beauty. Look at the pure glory put into this console. it goes online, it has a VISUAL memory unit, the games kick ass, etc.
The emulation and/or development is my favorite part though.
Name me one other console that has a game where you can get your Mexican on with Maracas and allows you to madly grind on rails as a blue hedgehog? Yep, you can't...

Only when it's a cheap port from Dreamcast

A Tamagochi/Memory Card isn't as great as you make it out to be.

Oh? I somebody jelous that they have no DC? It isn't as bad as you make it out to be, not to mention you don't have one so your opinion is null and voided.FredDibnah wrote:GyroVorbis wrote:DC can pull PS2-ish graphics wonderfully, as a matter of fact Shenmue II and Sonic Adventure II exceed PS2 almost pathetically.

Umm... Have you never played Resident Evil? Have you never played Sonic Shuffe? You have your VMU as your hand that shows your cards. In Resident Evil the VMU works as a health-o-meter so that you don't have to keep guessing what you're at like you do on your damn cube.JS Lemming wrote:I think the vmu's visual is useless inside the controller. Who looks off the screen during intense action?
I think that FredDibnah has absolutely no room to talk as I'm sure he's never even seen one, and I think that JSL has no room either as he's never really played even half enough Dreamcast games to conclude that a function of a piece of hardware is useless.
Both of you need to quit hating and go actually play some DC games so that you can at least have some halfway intelligent reasons backing your opinions.

LMFAO!!!
:guffaw:
SO TRUE! LMFAO!!
OMG, I cannot believe I said that. I'm a DS supporter. LMAO.
But JS Lemming, seriously, you're an idiot. That's the most incorrect and extremely WRONG statement I think I've ever seen you make. Any hardcore DC gamer (something you'd know nothing about :spin:) would know that in-game VMU's are extremely useful. RE, Sonic Shuffle, Silent Scope, Dynamite Cop, Crazy Taxi, Gauntlet Legends; shall I continue? And each of those games has a REASON to look down.
In sonic shuffle, you don't want others to see the cards in your hand, so only you look at the VMU display of your cards. It doesn't show the cards on the TV, or else eveyone would see them.
In Silent Scope (Damned right, Silent Scope, that famous arcade, gun compatible) the VMU shows you what your scope sees. If you want to make a close up head shot, you zoom out on the TV and look at the VMU, target between his eyes. Or, the VMU serves as a kind of night vision. Without it, I'd have never rescued the president's daughter in 28 seconds flat.
In Dynomit cop, it shows your health and inventory, just like resident evil. When fighting the last guy, you don't want to pause just to see your life.
Guantlet legends it shows potions and crap. When you play 4 player, all the item menus are so damn small you can barely read them. Walla! VMU!
Kinda random, but VMU displays where to take passengers and shows an arrow.
Aight, I'm not even going to continue. VMU's have uses in game playing. Just because you don't have more than 10 games doesn't mean you can diss the dreamcast and VMU. Not my fault you cannot warez, and don't own good games!
Fredonia, (Yeah, I just called you a girl’s name. Go cut yourself, Fredibnah.) I'm not even going to reply to that.
Wutai, nice job. I hope you find the DC to be enjoyable and don't let JS Lemming lead you astray. Good luck.
P.S. Js Lemming, Fredibnah, I don't mean to offend either of you in any way shape or form. I am just trying to get my point across and even though I say real asshole-ish things, I don’t mean it. I love DS and play it every day, JS Lemming. I also still admire your 1337 Blitz Skillz. Fredibnah, I admire your music and wish I could edit/compose like you. No offence to anyone reading this post, either.

Face it, its illogical to display your life off the TV. When you look down to see how much life you gots left, something can easily take you out. Why RE doesn't display the life on screen is beyond me.
I agree that the vmu can be used for cool "unique" game play, such as the cards thingy, but other then that, its more of a distraction then anything.
PS: The DS's screens are close enoughh to be viewed as one. Hence to two screen cut-scenes.

You've obviously not played enough RE games. Will your parents even let your purchase them?JS Lemming wrote:Face it, its illogical to display your life off the TV. Resident Evil is supposed to be piss your pants scary. It looks real. Now do you want this ugly red and blue life heart meter going up and down on the screen?
That'd soil the gameplay. No, Resident Evil has no onscreen menu. Thank god, if it did, it'd be almost like any other generic shooter. It'd just soil the whole affect.
Back to FredDibnah, I'm not done bashing your prejudice. I think you honestly need to shut up. Steriotyping hardware as a Tomagotchi, are we? That's only one function of the VMU. That's only one minigame of over a hundred. The VMU can be anything is the point. You look like a complete moron bashing it because of your lack of experience and/or knowledge of its capabilities.
I do agree with JSL that it can be a little distracting to look down during intense gameplay, but I don't think it's enough of one to call it
It could be used to diplay all sorts of things that would clutter up the screen without it, as Gyrovorbis said.
It could be used to show who is in the lead in a shooter.
I also am guessing that it has the ability to display a small map of your surrounding area, which would be useful in an adventure game.

Aight I'll bite. The vmu display can be a good thing and a bad thing. I think RE should have represented your life in numberical form, like Metroid. Takes up little screen space and gits the message across. You wouldn't even noitice it either if they would of applied some transparency to it as well.

Maybe, but Resident Evil is so hardcore badass with the VMU.
The gameplay is unsoiled. It feels and looks like you're actually in the environment.
Then you glance down at your VMU and see your heart meter. You know, that little bar that jumps up and down at your heart rate. It says that and FINE, CAUTION, DANGER and your ammo.
I don't know, I just think that feels really awesome.
Sonic Shuffle would almost be garbage without a VMU. I was actually thinking about making a poker with the same basic concept. Your VMU works as your cards in your hand. Other people shouldn't be able to see your hand (hence it's on the VMU and not the TV).
Then there's the independent VMU capabilities. I don't know, I can't think of a VMU minigame that I haven't played for hours and hours.
I just have this little fettish for the VMU. It's an awesome and innovative piece of hardware. I personally would like to make something stand alone for the little bad-boy one of these days. Perhaps in ASM or I'll look into the BASIC language (the ASM wouldn't be happening any time soon).

Gyro, you need to stop assuming that I haven't played the Dreamcast or seen a VMU just because I don't agree with your opinions. Three of my friends have a DC and I've played it, but I've never liked Sega games and doubt I ever will. The VMU isn't necessary because everything it does could have been incorporated into the game. You wouldn't have to look down.
