Hah, ironic. You're the one who made this assumption:

Calling a VMU a Tamagochi is as stupid as calling a GBA a Mario. A VMU can have/be whatever you put on it. It's not like it's a factory made Tamagochi.
Well there, you've just defeated yourself. By proclaiming the VMU as a Tamagochi you either show that you are a hypocrite and judge/assume things before you know them, or that you really don't play as much Dreamcast as you say.
I didn't mean it was a Tamagochi. That was a metaphor for how pointless I think it is.
And even if I hadn't used one before, I'd know exactly what it is: a stupid add-on that displays information that could have easily been incorporated into the game without having to look down and disrupt gameplay. It's a marketing ploy.
However, after having some time to cool off, I will admit that if you are the type of person that thinks gadgets like that are "cool," then I guess it serves a purpose in that sense.
