Re: Post every time you beat a game.
I just got Evoland on Steam yesterday (it was on sale for $5 and still is!) and played through it last night. It's not an incredibly long game, but the concept is really cool, the graphics are good, the story is entertaining, and the gameplay brings back memory. The main idea of the game is that you get to experience the evolution of the action adventure RPG starting with 1D movement with 8-bit graphics and ending with full 3D. The story is a parody of a few games, mostly inspired by FFVII (main character Clink wields Claud's sword, with party member Kaeris whose uncle Sid owns an airship).
The whole time I was playing through I was thinking about how fun and educational it must have been to develop, as it spans so many generations of gaming. The developers were really clever about the conflicting styles; one puzzle stage involves time crystals, which, when struck, toggle back and forth between 2D ("the past") and 3D ("the present") gameplay and graphics, with each mode having certain advantages/disadvantages that are necessary to complete the puzzle.
I'd give it a 8.5/10. It would easily be a 9.5/10 if the developers had taken advantage of the really great engine they made for the game and made the it significantly longer.

My cousin showed this game to me this weekend and I thought the same thing: they went through all the trouble to implement multiple engines and they just throw it away on a 4-hour game? He said the game is worth every penny, though.

It really was. I couldn't put it down, which made for some disappointment when I beat the game in one sitting, but I really enjoyed playing it.bbguimaraes wrote:My cousin showed this game to me this weekend and I thought the same thing: they went through all the trouble to implement multiple engines and they just throw it away on a 4-hour game? Just beat Halo 4, the cliffhanger at the end really made me want to buy an Xbox-One to get the next game. I think I'll start Fallout 3.

Aced Sephiroth with a single Omnislash.

Final Fantasy IX, I really liked it, but I enjoyed FFVI and FFVII more. The story, music, and gameplay were great, and I recommend all Final Fantasy fans to play it, and if you aren't a Final Fantasy fan maybe this game will get you started into the series. The graphics are dated, but a lot of PS1 games are that way.
I also beat Half Life 2 a while ago.

<tpw_rules> LightDark: java is a consequence of inverse moore's law: every 18 months, the average program will be twice as slow. therefore, computers always run at the same percevied speed. java's invention was a monumental step

Dust: An Elysian Tail. It's a 2D action RPG with INCREDIBLE graphics and very addictive combat. It was made, for the most part, by one guy, as his first foray into game development after a career of film animation, using XNA. I got it on sale a few weeks ago, let it sit in my library, decided to try it out, then got sucked in and ended up spending over 20 hours on it in two days.
Now I'm working on Darksiders.

Finished Broken Age Part 1, the new adventure game from Double Fine Productions and Tim Schafer. It was the game they raised money for on Kickstarter. Adventurous, funny, and very creative. Great art and entertaining game. Interesting story. One of my favorite games that's been out in years. I missed that genre of games.
