You know what would be crazy... if the human aspect was eliminated completely and wars became like giant games of chess between countries. We could have specific locations in every country to serve as the war grounds, a kind of battle bots extreme. Maybe war could even become an olympic sport.
I always figure this is how it would turn out when we start using robots, it will end up robots against robots, then no progress will be made in the war except we lost a bunch of money on building pointless machines, then another country will just bomb us and we will lose...... END
The atom bomb of robot wars is totally a focused EMP.
mmmm.... yes

Would be fun if wars were like a huge strategy game,
with RoBoTs!!!

Robotics still needs to evolve a bit.
And there better be an unmanned stealth Bomber...

Well, if they are going to send robots up against their foe's robots, then they are sort of playing.
Why can't they then solve their problem over a match of Warhammer?

"OKAY people, lets send out Robot X1000 to fight the enemy's RoboSlayer and see who will survive! Gather 'round the screen and lets watch!"

If we're planning a robot war in the near future, the robots better be Human-controlled, AI isn't so good for handling these kind of situations, and the human brain is much more creative and effective in battle (even in strategy games the humans control the robots, thats why it's called a Strategy game and not an AI game).

At least for now... AI isn't much developed for actual war needs.
and a human can easily hack a robot and see what he's planning to do next, especially in a war where the robots needs a network to "communicate".

HUMANZ-1 ROBOTZ-0

I did read an article in New Scientist magazine that, rather shockingly, ended with the following:
The next generation of hoppers should be able to jump up stairs or leap through open windows. Boston Dynamics are due to deliver the improved hopper in late 2010. Under a programme called Future Combat Systems, the Pentagon wants one third of its forces to be robotic by 2015.

What about these new super-strong exoskeletons?
Wonder why none talked about them, They are robots after all.

What happens when you have to pee?

You need only put the code after "watch?v=" in between the youtube tags.

BTW, both of those videos are pretty amazing.

And back to the subject,
Will robots soon replace the military?
And by replace I take it as there will be no humans on the battlefield.

In the words of Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw:
"The short answer is No,
the long is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

No, a robot with nuclear warheads in them will not go well with lawmakers and the citizens

This reminds me of the movie surrogates ( i hope i spelled that right). Anyone else seen the surrogate war scene, that looks more like a video game than a war.

People make mistakes too. I believe that robots are better than some jobs, other people better. Among the robots evolve much faster atm.So people in the future could fully substitute military. The robots can do things just are programmed to do and nothing else. While all the technological advances, I suspect they may have feelings or reason, or imagination of a human being does.

What robots lack is the ability to make connections, and recognize patterns but people are working on that... They are good at logic... but not reasoning and moving... they suck at moving, although there are some awesome all terrain robots being built

I think warfare in the future will be more of threat tactic, like how much damage we can do from as far away from possible, but only if we have to, if we can just scare the pants off the enemy it will be a lot better
