Small rant a friend of mine who has an import copy has to say about FFXIII...take it as you wish, if at all
"Picked up a super cheap ($40) import copy. I was in fact going to say that really you are basically watching a mildly interactive movie minus the fights which are just standardized QTEs. The production values are high sure but there is so little game there, let alone compelling gamePLAY. It's like they took FFX and chopped out the last vestiges of gameplay, then injected Advent Children into the cavities. Linear isn't the problem. Mass Effect 2 is fairly linear, but you are actually filling a role in the story and changing the flow of it with your actions. The only character customization available is a pre-determined sphere chart where you pretty much just open the chart menu and press A to fill it up and automatically gain skills which are in turn activated automatically in battle. I'm having trouble telling the difference between Heavy Rain and FFXIII aside from character/story quality weighing infinitely heavier in Heavy Rain's favor, and FFXIII's having a menu and retarded mini games to break up the ridiculous story."
Also, I just this video of the first 10min of the game. While it certainly looks good graphics-wise, the combat system looks utterly atrocious.

Knowing myself, I'll probably pick it up eventually, but definitely not right away. It's rare that I buy a game brand-new, and usually only for smaller companies (Brutal Legend, Boy and his Blob).
Unless...
When's the 360 release date? Same day? My birthday is 3/22. :p

I can't wait for it.
I want them to go back to Final Fantasy VI style battle, and exploring everything yourself. In that demo it looked like all the exploring was done through cutscenes, which is unapealling to me.
Buying it first minute it comes out though.

Wow. That friend of yours sounds like a real Final Fantasy (or JRPG) fan... I actually think the combat system looks really good. I can't say anything on the story before 'I've played it though.

"However, we noticed at this stage that the movies on the Xbox 360 suffered from more compression than on the PlayStation 3, while the Xbox 360 had an overall crisper image quality in the main game. "
From a Gamespot preview (not that I particularly trust their input). Looks like there will be both ups and downs to both versions. Either way, I am NOT playing Final Fantasy XIII for its graphics. Or, that's at least not high on my reasons to play.
Well said, i still haven't decided which platform to get if for yet but it'll be a blast either way.

Im not sure my ps3 is really dodgy at the min and the last thing i want is it to break halfway through the game.

I'm personally going to get it for the PS3 simply because that's the platform the team spent the most time on developing for... they sort of tacked on the 360 version as fast as possible at the end. Not saying that it'll be a bad port, but they did spend the least amount of time on it.

Exactly, the PS3 version is going to be WAAAY better than the 360 version, plus you don't have multiple disks

I agree with that 100%, but I also do not like the feeling of having to change between 3 discs. I mean if I end up losing and or scratching just 1 disc that would make me a angry person. So if you have both systems, there is pretty much no point not to get the ps3 version.

Exactly... I think it's hilarious that we are going back to multiple disks.
This just shows that the 360 has inferior hardware to the PS3, I mean come on... why couldn't Microsoft do something about this?
Multiple disks? That wasn't even last gen that was TWO generations ago that we had multiple disks on the PS1 days... and now we experience it again?
It's pretty pathetic, and it's a disgrace to the gaming industry knowing that Microsoft puts out such shit for hardware and people are so blind to follow with it... anything the 360 can do the PS3 can do and MORE.
Sorry, I don't want to turn this into a console war.
Back to Final Fantasy XIII, just 5 more days
