Thanks Ginto. I'll pitch this on the Kubuntu forum and see what people say. As far as #1, should I boot to my installation of Linux, or the "Try it without installing" option? Does it matter?

well you need access to the "terminal" (bash) so choose "try it without installing"

Well, this didn't solve my problem. I cleared the MBR and I still get that boot agent. It has to be part of the motherboard anyway since that's the piece that caused this thing to appear in the first place. I can't find anything in the BIOS that could be an option for this and the Boot Agent's own options don't allow me to disable it. The documentation that the company provides gives no information on removing it either. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion but no dice ><
