Long ago I used to have learning issues especially at school but then I hated a lot of the lessons though I excelled in the subjects I enjoyed away from school (IT and music). Now I will do whatever it takes to get knowledge regardless of the payoff. Maybe you need to forget the ‘I wanna be a game programmer’ thing and just learn C++ for the sake of knowing C++ and then you can apply that to game development.
