You've been misinformed. ;p

You'll probably make shit pay and long hours working for a "game developer." The opposite can be said for a government job--you won't do shit, make a ton of money...And have every second of it.
Agreed. Arce knows first-hand, but I think this deserves being pointed out twice. Personally, I would much rather work a government position than at a game studio, even if the game studio sounds like more "fun" from the start. IMHO, government benefits greatly outweigh any "fun" to be had at said game studio. ;)
Holy SHIT, this is wrong.

Government jobs make WAAAAAY the fuck more money, have way the fuck better security, and way the fuck better benefits than any game development studio you will work with. I was a government coop student for almost two years. I still have my secret security clearance to this day if I ever decided to return to it.

For me the problem was that they are all a bunch of unpassionate, unmotivated, undriven people working with technology that is older than I am. I need stimulation and challenge.

Now you all say that I was misinformed about the salary of a person working for the government... Now if I want to get into that field, a I don't need like PHD or something do I? LOL A BS in Comp Sci is enough, I don't need to double major in like Nuclear Chemistry or Quantum Physics or anything like that right? I am seriously considering working for JPL over game development. But from what I have been working with robots are they are different from computers, unlike monitors, the actions done by robots are "slow". I have to limit my use of for loops and stuff like that when I want to move motors or something because in real life, the motor is not as fast as the processor so its kinda funky the way I program robots.

Now lets say I do get hired by JPL, won't i be starting out very slow? Put in jobs most people don't want, very insignificant jobs? I want to be programming the rovers and rockets and stuff lol not getting coffee for some old guy

:worship: Damn, eh, thats why I got college to learn how to work with those, but isn't computer engineering geared more toward robotics than computer science?

I think Falco said a while back that Computer Engineering covers Electronics and other low level stuff, which I believe is an important part of robotics. Whereas Computer Science is more mid-high level and software oriented! ;)

Well its possible to make a "custom" major and just blend those 2 together, just skip Computer Science I and just move onto II or something

Since I'm also studying CE, for three years now, I might give an insight into it:

- The first two years are identical two Electrical Engineering, very much theory with a lot of math. Also basic Computer Science stuff and Physics. System Theory is a bitch.
- Since then we had Automata Theory, Operating Systems, Foundations of Compiler Construction, Communication Networks, Communication Technology, Pattern Recognition, Cryptography and Mobile Communication Systems. Some of these are elective subjects.

that vid is amazing GUE and on the hj that'd be intense... and as for Computer Engineering... Operating systems may be my thing...
