Re: iPad Impressions
I think gyro touched on this, but I don't like how it has no multitasking ability because multitasking is my life. I don't have enough time in my schedule to just sit and read a book. Unless they make a multiple app playing app, I won't be getting one. Or if they make it free... Is there an app for that?

I know I wouldn't be upset if Flash died. It's always be crappy and unstable. With HTML 5 having support for video, and combining the canvas tag and svg with the new jitted Javascript engines that Google and Mozilla (and probably Apple) are working on, Flash could easily be replaced.Arce wrote:Anyway, Apple is claiming that "HTML5" will become the new rich web standard, and that flash will fix or die. Interesting. I mean, fuck.
The novice realizes that the difference between code and data is trivial. The expert realizes that all code is data. And the true master realizes that all data is code.

Re: iPad Impressions
Well, I thought I should chime in again. (probably a bad idea )
I don't fully understand the argument against "no multitasking". For me as a developer I can't see myself without it, but for the standard user? I think it works fine. Most people I know will usually have the internet open, a word processing program, and music playing. This can be done on the iPhone OS. The inconvenience is pressing the home button then the app icon. It's an extra step. I'll admit, that's inconvenient. However, all the data is still cached and push notifications still run in the background. Your music will still play after exiting the music app, and your websites will be cached so that when you launch safari they are all still where you left them. The speed of launching and exiting apps is pretty much instantaneous as well. This still doesn't beat seeing two windows from different programs running simultaneously side by side. It seems like the iPad could have been capable of this, with so much more screen real estate than the iPhone. Part of the reason Apple axed multitasking is battery life, but you'd think with 10 hours of life users wouldn't mind a little less for multitasking abilities.
Also, who is the target audience? Rich families who want a high-tech device they can take on vacation as well as put on their coffee table.
Just my 2¢...

Personally I think that if Steve Jobs shat in his hand most consumers would call it revolutionary
