I remember hearing the word 'free' too, but as the project evolves, who knows?

Dear god, they actually ported ES to a piece of celery!

Yeah, same here. I don't really mind if I have to pay for it though.

It's very strange. I don't even know now.

Initially we had no interest in selling the game. Then I got older, moved out, had bills to pay, and came to realize that I should probably at least attempt to somehow make money on Elysian Shadows.

We had talked about releasing the game for free then releasing a "special edition" full of special goodies like concept art, soundtrack, DVD containing every dev video, scans of the dev books, and the DC/PSP/PC builds of the engine. The special edition would then be sold for a profit.

But once again, I'm really not sure. Even if it is for sale, half of you are going to torrent it, and I'm okay with that. I don't think that I deserve to get paid unless you guys appreciate the final product. In which case, I would consider it more of a donation every time people pay to purchase ES.

Interesting... can you sell DC/PSP games for a profit? Even if the profit is not for the game itself, but just because it is included with the extras that you are selling, can you still do that? I'm not all that familiar with profiting from homebrew, you'll have 100% custom everything, but just because it is on a platform(I am more so talking about the PSP than DC) and NOT using a company approved dev kit, can you still sell it?

Again, not bashing the idea, but I have always looked at homebrew as being strictly non-profit due to legal things that are far above my head.

I know for a fact that Dreamcast games may be sold for a profit because the KOS library was constructed purely through reverse engineering without any Sega code. Several different companies DO publish Dreamcast games for money:

http://goatstore.com

I'm not positive about the PSP homebrew devkit, but i don't see why it wouldn't be the same way.

Why don't you just have a donation set up on the site, so people can donate if they feel so inclined...

This.

Similar to what 2dBoy did for World of Goo a few months back. I would be inclined (as well as many others I would imagine) to donate to the ES team. Of course who knows how far away the release will be. Come that time you might have 100,000 subscribers and 10,000 forum members. At that point I would just suggest a fixed price for it. In the end I'm sure the team will make the right decision.

A donation button wouldn't be out of the question in the future, but just not yet. I don't even feel like I deserve to be donated to yet. Maybe once the team gets farther along, once ES is pretty close to getting finished, and we have Youtube videos showing all sorts of gameplay mechanics and content, I will feel better about allowing myself to accept money.

Since I don't have editing authority I have to grammar-check this way ;)

Soz bout this, but I heard some arrogant asshole on youtube bashing Elysian Shadows. His name is bearrick and he doesn't even know what type of game ES is. Apparently he doesn't know that its a 2D rpg either, but he did say that peter was leaving the team. Is this true!? I will go cry now if he is

I know Peter has recently been tied up with a girlfriend and there was some talk about Peter being distracted like Marcel was... but at the same time don't believe everything you hear from random haters.

Ah, thats okay then. No, I didn't believe him, but I did think it could be plausible. The hater wasn't a very credible source to begin with, but thanks for the insight (trask).
