HELLO WORLD!!!! I'm relatively new to programming I know some basics of C++...lol.. I started trying to make games with Game Maker when I was 13 or so and lost interest. I'm 17 now and I have more time on my hands at the moment so I decided to try to learn C++. Also I was wondering is it too late for me to learn programming and go to college on software engineering or something since I'm so late in the game? I mean falco started learning to program at 13 or so... as I understand it.

too late? Hell no! You may be at a little bit of a disadvantage compared to some, but compared to others just getting into real programming before college will put you ahead. Everyone starts when they're ready, and once they're ready, the playing field is even. I even wish sometimes that I had started a little later, because I would have seriously benefitted from some of the more complex mathematical concepts earlier on. Either way, just learn it and you'll do well!

definitely not, never too old to learn anything really. I didnt start game programming until earlier this year and im 24, although i wasnt new to programming, but I didnt do any programming at all before college. Reminds me of when i was about 14 and thought it was too late to start playing bass, because all my friends had grown up playing instruments, but a few years after it made no difference, we jammed together all the time. definitely not too old. u have plenty of time to learn. You will always know people that know more than you when starting out and it seems like your behind but they went through the same thing as you.

Great!!! Thanks, I've been really worried that it was just pointless to even bother with it at this point. Since some of the ES team were already working on games for DreamCast while they were in highschool.

cout >> printf("hello world!");
i totally got syntax errors on that one!XD
Hi guys, My name is gamenovice, or tj for short. i have just started game dev/programming as of last year, mainly b/c I only had access to it as of that time.
As of right now I am programmin/practicing in JAVA, C#, C++, Lua, OBJ C(for an augmented iphone game), and some others.
The language i am the most fluent with is javascript, but i am at a point where i can read code, but cant necassarily write code(mainly due to writers block), but other than that I have no special skillz for game dev programming. except that i made a hello world program for the Wii using the devkitpro libraries, and that i am a graphic artist.
hopefully i will make somthin cool and post it on here!
but with that aside: HI GUYS!

Hey guys, I'm dr-snipe.
I code mainly in C++, SDL, and sometimes HTML/CSS/PHP. I've been coding off and on since I was 12 back when I did HTML and VB. I'm currently deving, or trying to, dev some games with C++/SDL. I've completed Pong so far and have started some other projects. Been having some bad bugs with them recently so hopefully you guys can help me.
I've also been watching AiGD since I was 13, and now I'm 16 and still watch it.
Thanks

Hey everyone! I'm jb. I'm not exactly new to programming but in my high school years it always took a back seat to playing music. This time I'm gonna do it I swear! Well anyways, I'm currently coding a shmup in C++ with SDL. The code is most likely complete shit but I'm trying. I spent my days in high school writing ridiculous apps in Visual Basic that would kick other users off of AOL and/or piss people off. I've always wanted to get into game development but always got bored with console apps in C++ and gave up then came back many times over. I've half assed various other languages including, Z80 and 8086 assembly, java, C#, PHP, javascript, etc... All of which I suck at. I'm determined to stop half assing everything and write a few simple 2d games in C++.

I really appreciate the help the regulars here give the newbies. Just one helpful post after another after another. I hope I can help people newer than me as well as receive help. Thanks alot guys!
