Dreamcast heaven for 5 minutes.
I just had a five minute long orgasm. I don't even know what to say.
For Christmas, one of my top priorites is the Dreamcast VGA adapter. My parents got it for me off Ebay and it arrived today. I talked them into letting me test it out.
You have not played Dreamcast until you've seen it on a VGA monitor. I don't care if you have the maracas, I don't care if you play with your Saturn pad on DC like I did, I DON'T freaking care if you have a Broadband adapter and play online every night either.
I had not played Dreamcast until just now. I scrambled to view the glory of as many games as I could in the five minute time. I saw REZ, Samba De Amigo, and Shenmue 2. I can't believe my eyes. I won't be able to quit thinking about the VGA adapter until Christmas.
The picture is just... perfect. There is no damn blur for the TV, it just looks amazing. Colors are way more vibrant and it just looks breath-taking. My VGA adapter has a plug for my computer speakers, so I played on my awesome monitor with my nice computer speakers. Oh dear lord this is true glory.
Shenmue 2 was just... OH MY EFFING GOD. >>>>>>>>>Xbox visually. Holy shit. I nearly wet myself. It looks so god damned good. Just perfect. I just want to play more.
The Dreamcast VGA adapter isn't just another extra. It is a whole new type of Dreamcast play. I'm going to rebeat every DC game I've ever owned again just to see it in full glory on my VGA monitor.
I'm still just like... awestruck.

I'd go for certain 3rd party ones. Everybody is under the impression that 1st party official Sega ones are the only ones that look good.
I found a guy selling like 20 3rd party VGA adapters of the same type on Ebay. I did some research and found that it is apparently the best 3rd party adapter there is.
I don't see any graphical flaws or anything short of perfection. The first party ones might be equal, but they can't possibly be better.
If you're crazy, and you want to go for 1st party, you'll have to pay crazy prices. I've seen them go for $70.
I got my 3rd party one that works just as well for like $10-$20. 3rd parties are dirt cheap on Ebay. I'll have to post a picture of mine so you know which one, because some 3rd parties apparently suck.

Haha. Get it. You know you want it.
You know, DCLoad-IP doesn't even have a loading/stats bar programmed in. The developers didn't bother because it loads so fast.
Viva doesn't stream music for BBA users. It just opens it and runs straight off the hard drive.
Oh, and I haven't used /rd (romdisk) on Dreamcast in forever. In case you forgot, that's the image that's mounted into ram when you're programming so you have all of your files already loaded.
I just open everything straight off my hard drive because the BBA is so fast. I can dynamically change files while the program is running.
Oh, and I'll see you on Quake III Arena and you're going to join TheChaosRift/DCemulation PSO cult.
We both know you're getting one.
(Hyper Shadow is also probably getting a BBA for Christmas. That's the top of his list)
So yeah, effin' A to both of you.

KVM switch = Keyboard Video Mouse Switch. attach one of each of those, and it splits it into hookups for two devices (PC and DC).

The way mine works, i hit scroll lock twice fast then up or down and it switches monitors/etc.

I've seen 'em at computer stores for 20 bucks. Probably pretty crappy though.

It really doesn't work quite like that. The functionality of a "Dreamcast Hard Drive" comes from either having 1) Coder's Cable 2) BBA that connects your DC and PC so the DC can access the hard drive.
In that case you can write programs and load things from your PC. A personal goal of mine is to expand on this. Imagine the possibilities with NESterDC or some emulator loading roms from the hard drive.
