Okay, I'm an addict.

Officially. I am addicted to coffee. I physically need it to function.
Since I started working again, I picked up drinking coffee. Sometimes I don't get to bed as early as I should've, and it makes sitting at your desk that much easier.
But I've noticed that I absolutely need coffee. I'm up to two rather large cups now. So I decided to test something out.
I came into work fully rested (like 8 hours of sleep) and drank one of those Glaceau "vitamin waters" with 50mg of caffeine per bottle. I never felt awake, but I tried to keep going.
Around lunch time it became unbearable. I don't get caffeine headaches, but I just felt so goddamn tired. I felt like I never really woke up. So after lunch, I ran back up to the office and caved. I poured myself a large cup of coffee and indulged. I felt absolutely great for the rest of the day.
Even as I sit here now, sort of tired with a cup of coffee beside me, I feel infinitely better than without. Even the smell of coffee helps wake me up. I really can't go without it.
I'm quitting trying to quit drinking coffee. I'm too productive when I do drink it. The only downside is my twice-a-day teeth whitening ritual as a result. I cannot stand yellow teeth, and it does slowly start to discolor my teeth when I'm not careful. I drink from a straw, use shitloads of creamer, rinse with mouthwash afterwards and use a tooth bleaching kit twice a day.
I don't know why I'm sharing this, because I have absolutely no desire to give up coffee.

Damnit! I've been trying to ween myself off of coffee, but after your little diatribe, coffee sounds pretty good.

My alternative is Mountain Dew, which is also carbonated and is considered completely unhealthy. Coffee has antioxidants, more caffeine, wakes me up more, and it considered healthy by many nutritionists.
I've done the first step and admitted that I have a problem, but the rest of the steps can go to hell, because I'm not going to do anything about it. Every time I try to give up coffee, I'm just miserable, tired, and unproductive.

On friday's a bunch of us at work go to Snuffers. Its a local burger joint, but they've got some damn good margaritas.
Trying to stay focused on work is hard enough on a Friday afternoon - especially after booze. But hopefully the coffee will help...
Kids, alcohol is bad, code and booze don't mix! But somehow Golvellius still compiles!

Coffee makes me more tired than I was previously within ~10 minutes. Still. It's done this to me for years. I just don't drink it anymore.

Don't feel too bad Gyro, all programmers I know drink coffee to survive! Although I don't know many programmers!
I'm completely addicted as well. I drink some hardcore, strong, dark-ass fucking shit/coffee, that is so strong it
probably has nuclear properties! I drink a large cup in the morning (and I mean large), and it keeps me up until... like, 7/8 PM.
It's crazy. It usually works well, since I get sort of like a coffee-crash around that time, and get EXTREAMLY tired, so I go to sleep
around 10 or 11 PM because of it. Works pretty well for me, I'd say
Conversely to you though, I've never tried to quit. I've employed, rather, a different kind of
excuse-driven reasoning. I try to tell myself that the benefits of coffee outweigh the disadvantages. Like for instance,
I've read coffee is a excellent source of anti-oxidant that also cuts your chances of developing diabeties substancially:

One bad thing about coffee, I've heard, is that is hardens your freaking aorta. But hey, I workout a bit, so I'm hoping that
offsets the health disadvantages.

I tried coffee a few times, and I just don't like the taste. The smell is great tho.
and..
Yeah, kids, alcohol and code don't mix. That's why you have to do one at a time.
It's generally better if the booze comes after the code.
Code -> booze -> Compile & run button -> Shitty syntax! But decide to fix it tomorrow -> party ->...

Marauder, I know you're a programmer. In fact, I know you're a heck of a programmer that set up these forums, you are a king. Your are the best king ever!
By the way, any more of those discrete math-type problems that you presented in a previous post? I had fun refreshing my memory and solving the set-problems you showed. I think I have a book by Rosen hanging around here regarding the same subject... And by the way, Marauder, get back to drinking coffee, stop denying it to yourself. Because, I know, once you go black, you never go back!
Oops, does that sound gay or what! I mean black-bean coffee, or course!

I'm not addicted to coffee yet, but i am sorta addicated to caffine. I drink lots and lots of coke, and
occasionally coffee although it does tend to happen more and more often. I think I'm going to run an
experiment now though, tonight I'm suppose to try an fix a friends texture manger thing so I'm going to
make some really strong coffee and see how it goes.

Chris brought over some Captain Morgan spiced rum. I'm browsing the forums while under the influence... so if my posts are retarded, yeah.
I won't be touchinga ny source code though, haha.
Also, I think that I am a way more energetic and productive programmer onc offee. Probably not alcohol, thoguh.

The typos, and willingness to post about being under the influence when you're clearly an under-aged American, both bear testimony to that truth.
Stimulant vs. Depressant.

You should play online multiplayer novoicechat games while under the influence! I know I've seen my share of:
"dotn kill me im durnk"
"*durkn"
"*drukn"
"*d r u n k!!1"
"dammti"
"*dammti"
"*dammit!!"
And it's funny! You should treat everyone else! Also if you want to mess in the source to see how well you program drunk, we can always revert later.
Also coffee is still a major downer for me, whether I drink it a lot or not :P

lol, how's that hangover treatin' ya this morning?
Somehow I can still manage to code while intoxicated - at least for a while. Eventually I can't focus on anything, which means it's time to switch to porn.
