I have 2 computers now ones a laptop the other is a desktop. So I set up dual screen on Ubuntu and got wireless signals to link my keyboard up to my laptop. So one keyboard is controlling two computers. The program is called synergy its pretty neat check it out.

So it's sort of like pressing scroll lock twice and then an arrow key on a hard-wire kb connection like you use on a computer workbench (like you would find in a computer diagnostic place)?

Wait what!? The Scroll Lock key actually does something?

It does something in DOS and yeah it does something else if it's set up in some specific fashion. I don't know if it's a hardware thing or a software thing.

Yeah, I got bored one time and looked up what the Scroll Lock and SysRq keys were supposed to do, but it seems as if most often they are not really used for anything anymore.

I run Ubuntu 8.04 -Gnome on one computer and Fedora 9 XFCE on my second computer. If you didn't know already XFCE doesn't support scroll lock at all and synergy will work on mac, windows and Linux. :D Oh and I am talking about a GUI and it has little to do with DOS. :/

KVM switches often use the scroll lock key with a number as a hot key to activate a softswitch for changing between channels. Similarly, the KVM-like software solution Synergy uses scroll lock to keep the keyboard and mouse control within the current screen. Certain 2-computer KVM switches provide that a "double click" of the scroll lock key (striking the key twice quickly) is used to switch between computers.

Sounds like Synergy does exactly what scroll lock + arrow would do on certain setups (since I was talking about a KVM, and had forgotten the name). More reading on synergy says that it's more of a KM switch because it doesn't have video.

But still sounds neat.

I have never had a need to use Scroll Lock and XFCE doesn't support it so it would have obviously caused a problem when switching between these environments. But now mentioning the hardware switch that Synergy uses I understand what you mean. I suppose you learn something new every day.
