Games you're really far in, but never beat
Sometimes school gets in the way. Sometimes you get to a difficult spot and kind of lack motivation to continue on. Sometimes you haven't played it in a while and forget where you're at, and the game has no log book! Whatever reason, what games have you picked up, enjoyed pretty well, but never got around to beating?
* Final Fantasy 8
I've owned it on PC, I've owned it on PS1. I've replayed it three or four times now, and my latest game is at the final boss. Unfortunately, I got to this point before I realize monsters level with you in this game, and one of my favorite RPG past-times is power leveling. Doh. I cannot beat that damn boss.
* Final Fantasy 4
I have it on PS1, and I'm at the final boss, but after three attempts I kept dying and haven't really gone back. Currently playing on DS though.
* Final Fantasy 3 (DS)
I put this down for school and don't remember what I was doing
* Final Fantasy X-2
I should have power leveled more. Can't go back now, and can't stand the dialog enough to start over.
* Septerra Core (PC)
Losing your savegames in harddrive failures is no fun.
* Summon Night (GBA)
I got to a point where you couldn't go back for potions, sadly only had a couple, and had my ass handed to me repeatedly.
* Drill Dozer
FUCK YOU PLANT BOSS THING.
* Dragon Quest Rocket Slime
Damn you confusing last level I have no patience for. And those dumb tank battles. The game is awesome and adorable, though. I love the gameplay outside of the tanks.
* Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits
I really liked this game, but unfortunately I'm at a boss you have to fight with the topless boy with a bow and arrow who does shit damage. Problem is? I never leveled him.
* Harvest Moon DS
What? I need to save (arbitrarily large number) of sprites before I can get married? Fuck that.
* Fire Emblem (GBA)
The final boss is... all of the previous bosses, except more powerful. I power-leveled my lords and a couple other units, so I'm vastly outnumbered. My max-level mage just... dies. Every other battle dodges every freaking attack, but no use against the boss.
* Rayman 1 and 2
Rayman 1 pencil level. Whoever designed those levels needs to burn in hell.
I forget which level in Rayman 2, but it sucks.
* Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus
I rebought them so maybe I'll beat them, but back when I was 12 I got to the last areas in both, but was too "afraid" to beat them. I think Oddysee had a timed ending thing, and I hated those as a kid. Still do, but at least I'm not such a pussy.
* Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Played, put down, picked back up. Not sure where the heck to go. I can go to either time period, so I end up running around aimlessly before just turning off the game.
* Ratchet and Clank
Just didn't feel like playing that last level, for some reason. Savegame is deleted now, too, so I can't just go back and beat it.
Honorable mention:
* Magic Knight Rayearth (SNES)
I almost didn't beat this game, but I did. Why? 14-year-old fan-girl-ism.
I had power leveled a TON. However, one of the bosses required you to lose. The problem is? Two party members with 3,000+ HP each, and the boss doing only 1 damage per turn.
Fuck.

Re: Games you're really far in, but never beat
I have a few, let's see...
Okage: I got really far and just lost interest...
Snake Eater: same as above.
Blue Dragon: meh.
Dead Rising: THIS GAME SUCKS SHIT. How could you fail with a game where you can use anything as a weapon and zombies are involved...? I don't know how but they did.
All these games that I haven't beat are PS2 era and up. I just lost interest. I do that a lot for newer games. But then somebody will make a big deal about a certain game, and then I'll be like "Oh crap, I own this but I didn't beat it" and then I'll play it and beat it. I just love my old pixels and my Dreamcast, to be honest. =\
2D games I can sit and beat all the way through, Dreamcast has some amazing titles, too that I can do that with. Also, PSX has some charming games, as well.
Perhaps I'm just an old dinosaur

Aye aye. I actually really liked Okage, up to a point. It seemed like a much different RPG, until the plot-twist where it ends up you save the world or some dumb shit.
Seriously? Can I just, for once, not save the world? PLEASE?

There should totally be a game where you're a miserable japanese bishie looking guy like Cloud but you have a desk job! Then you can battle Anderson when he loses the Planters Peanuts account!LusikkaMage wrote:Aye aye. I actually really liked Okage, up to a point. Final Fantasy X.
I have been playing this for over 6 months now. I'm right about to beat the game also. I'm at the Dragon right before Yunalesca. I got sidetracked by school, then relationship issues, then game development, then work.

Re: Games you're really far in, but never beat
At least at the end of FFX, from what I recall, they give you a pretty good final save point where you can grind, without worrying about running out of potions and such (the save points heal you, right?). I hate it when you've saved at the last place and are SOL because you didn't pack enough supplies. D:
Re: Games you're really far in, but never beat
Final Fantasy X is not a game, it's an interactive movie... DUH
5 mins of gameplay, then 15 minutes of cutscene does not qualify as a GAME.

But staring at Lulu's tits, Riku's ass, and wanting Yuna's body throughout the entire game makes it a damn fine movie...

Re: Games you\\\\\\\'re really far in, but never beat
I mentioned this in the Gameathon thread, but I\\\\\\\'ll repost it as I still shake my fist to this:
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time(always as the damn Ice Cavern)
First, I was borrowing the game from a friend who wanted it back when I got there.
Then I bought the game, go there, stopped playing and then lost the game.
THEN I played it via emulator during my senior year in high school and I lost the game file when I went to college.
Then, I got it on the gamecube in that 4 zelda game disc and my memory card died.
And finally, the last time I went through it, I got to the Ice Cavern via emulator and deleted the damn files after I ran out of space on my laptop when I was in Texas, far away from home.
Final Fantasy VII
I\\\\\\\'ve picked this up a few times, though never too seriously.
It was the first game I ever played on my Playstation via rental and needless to say, going from Vectorman or Sonic to FFVII as my first RPG/PS game was a bit overwhelming. I didn\\\\\\\'t know how to do anything and failed miserably. I only rented it because I thought it was badass that it had more than one disc, I never even heard of Final Fantasy(I was really out of the loop in the game world until the PS2 came out, then I started reading magazines and what not, otherwise I only saw/played what looked good on the box at the rental place or what my friends had).
One semi-serious playthrough came via a playstation emulator which allowed me to save anywhere and I got to that game place, same deal as OOT, I ended up deleting the whole folder with the save files.
