NEW PROJECT!!!!!! YAY
okay, i dont know if this has been done so please forgive me if this is rehashed.
okay. so i was reading a topic on here and this kid made a game in C++ called "Forrest if Doom" or something like that.
ps: Doom I & II is some of my all time favorites, i mean i dont think i would have made past my child hood if i didnt play those games.
so i was thinking of making a Doom remake, but instead of having it "3d" raytracer, have it in Diablo style.
the .WAD files are really easy to decode and i can use exsisting files. load the levels and everything. i might try an polish up the graphics though, but have the levels exactly the same.
i dont know why, but this project has me excited.

Dude, that sounds like an awesome project, especially if you can load in WAD files! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Re: NEW PROJECT!!!!!! YAY
yeah i already looked into the WAD's. i can load the files and draw the level.trufun202 wrote:Dude, that sounds like an awesome project, especially if you can load in WAD files! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
ps: i used code from sf.net so dont get on my back about it.
i also have the texture pallet, and what surfaces have what textures.
im struggling with the NPC's thought. i expect to turn this project around in a month, so mid January.

Sweet.
Are you going to modify the original source code for this or roll your own?

Re: NEW PROJECT!!!!!! YAY
i might steal code for loading WAD files. or i might extract all the data out the wad file that i need. then make my own.
the one thing i dont like about wad files is that is all just one file, its really hard for people to add/edit your game when you use it.
as for the engine and so on. i think i'll probably just make my own.
i already extracted all the graphical data and sound data. already have a sound system in place that can play all the kickass midi sound, and also play event triggered sounds.
