I'm an Adobe fan myself, and I hate Micro$oft...
So I'm going with Flash!

I love all of Adobe's work, it's awesome!
Flex and Flash FTW!

Plus, Sliverlight just plain sucks anyway...

By Adobe's work you mean Macromedia's work.

I'd say flash is here to stay. Silverlight is just Microsofts bid to get there paws on another market.

And nice catch marauder, not alot of people remember that Adobe bought out Macromedia.

Well Adobe owns Macromedia now... I knew that they where bought out..
I used to have Flash, Fireworks, and Dreamweaver MX when Macromedia owned them...
I feel like Adobe is doing a good job with them.

And Silverlight is trying to be the "flash killer" which we know will fail...

Yeah, I'm a big fan of .NET, but I'm not sold on Silverlight... It reminds me alot of Java Applets.

imo, the problem is that Silverlight was built with developers in mind - not designers. And the designers are the ones that make things look pretty.

At work, our Creative department has 30 or so Flash designers, and I highly doubt their going to completely drop their life's work for Silverlight when it still doesn't have the bells & whistles of Flash.

I have a project coming up in the next 4 or 5 months to develop an interactive company map in Silverlight...we'll see if my opinion changes after that.

Flash is more open, Silverlight isn't even good for external data...

How so? As I said before, I'm not sold on Silverlight, so I'm not defending it...but I want to make sure we have the facts straight.

I would say that Silverlight has more access to external data because it can use HTTP, SOAP, or WCF. With Flash, you're limited to HTTP and SOAP.

well Microsoft did buy DOS off someone else and just improved it...

Seriosuly though, Flash is so widely used throughout the internet, it's going to stay, people already know how to use it, and just remember that the vast majority of online video players out there are flash applications.

Microsoft will always be trying to break into new markets, but despite them being a big fish in a big pond, they're a slightly smaller fish in the online market (i.e., they don't quite 'get it' yet if you ask me)

Microsoft has tried a lot of things... most which have failed...
I love Flash, ActionScript is awesome and fun to use.

 to the casual user, yes. But if you are into programming, you're going to do a lot of file manipulation, and UAC will really piss you off. Furthermore, the "There is a problem with your security" bubble that pops up every so often once you've turned UAC off. Also, there are a number of compatibility issues, and XP is better than Vista and Vista SP1 on multiple fronts (according to PC World magazine). However, Windows 7 sounds promising, and Vista is still only at SP1, so Microsoft may not be "falling into a dark end", it just may have fallen into a 6-foot hole that they have to climb out of before going forward. ;)

I dislike vista, all I get is problems with it.
if it isn't my laptop refusing to turn off, it's a program that refuses to install on my sytem (or worse, install and not work properly)

Unfortunately, it's currently my only option, my XP desktop is broken, and it would be too expensive (and a little fooish as new software will be optimised for vista) to install XP on the laptop...
