For those of you who don't already know, we're taking donations for a 'new camera' fund.

I think it's about time we decide what camera to get...Any suggestions? Pros and cons of one over another?

Okay since I don't know what you're price range is I well give a few suggestions.

$200 Flip Video MinoHD.
PROS: its small, does up to 720p hd video,For the price the auto focus is good,Easy to use.

CONS: only does 60 minutes worth of video, Has trouble in low light, I find it kinda annoying to record long periods of time and the small screen can be a pain.

$799 Sony Handycam HDR-SR11.
PROS:Good video quality, Does 1080i,Good auto focus, Good image stabilization,It has face detection to help focus which I have played around with and it works pretty good,Good sound,Good low light image.60 gig hard drive so plenty of room.Really clear viewfinder.

CONS:not the best battery life, The software to convert the file to get it on you're computer is shit. A little pricey. Manual focus is a pain in the ass, A little large in size

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I personally like the second and third ones--the first seems a little too much like a new model of ours *shudder*. The third is also more affordable, depending on how much more we can receive in donations.

What do the rest of you think?

From the three that've been posted, I'd go with the third. Price seems doable, and it seems like it'll pull off what you guys need it to do.

I don't know enough about camcorders to give an opinion you should really listen to though

Very nice, thanks for the recommendations. At the moment, we're at the $250-$300 range. I am really not sure what to do. We could wait to see if we get more donations or just go for it. But then again, this is giving us more time to code things that will be in 16... hrm.

Give it a little more time. You'll get more donations.

Flip HD is your best bet--you'd rather have 720p than 1080i, it's compact and easily mounted, not to mention is used for a lot of hd podcasts on a budget. It's in the budget, and it leaves money left over for the ROUND TABLE OF DEVVAGE.

yeah i have a friend who has one of those. They are pretty nice and really good quality get that one.

I'm still using my Sony Cybershot D20(something like that) so I have no recommendations... but is this for things just going on youtube or are you still thinking about a compilation thing at the end of all this? Cause, its just youtube... you don't need top of the line 1080p with surround sound etc... keep it simple to use etc.
