Nintendo Patents GBA Emulation?

What the fuck? Emulation is basically pirating a game in the form of a rom which can be played on the computer. Since when does somebody patent the pirating of their creations? I don't know what the hell Nintendo meant by doing this, but I wanna find out more.
US Patent Link This month's addition of Gamepro Magazine talks about how Nintendo has been granted a patent for hand-held emulation of the GBA. "The Patent gives Nintendo a way to stop potential piracy through iron-clad legal means. Already, Canadian developer Crimson Fire-which has been working on a GBA emulator for the Tapwave Zodiac-has been served with a cease-and-desist notice."
Hmm... I guess this makes sense, but I wonder why the hell nobody else thought of it.

Dude, does that like mean if we get caught downloading a GBA emulator off the internet then we could be fined? Sounds to me like the thing they are doing where you get fined if you download music off the net.

Showdin, if you are caught downloading ANY rom off the net you are a hell of a lot worse off than being fined. Prison, anybody?
I guess Nintendo did this randomness to try to enforce it more strict than antipiracy companies have. Good job Nintendo, made another ass of yourselves!

It doesn't make sense to me either.
But just to be an ass and to further confuse you, think about this random scenario. Drugs are illegal. Some ass decides to patent drugs... That'd just be a really stupid thing to do. Nobody would quit stoning because of a patent. :?
