I can't make this stuff up, ladies and gents.

Found a link to this at another programming board. I guess there was a poll earlier this year to choose the next Barbie... well, guess who won. This is quite hilarious.

She looks more like call center tech support. If she were a computer engineer she'd be holding an energy drink and wearing a linux t-shirt.

To ensure the doll accurately reflects this occupation, Barbie® designers worked with the Society of Women Engineers and the National Academy of Engineering to ensure that accessories, clothing and packaging were realistic and representative of a real computer engineer. Looking geek chic, Computer Engineer Barbie® wears a t-shirt featuring binary code and computer/keyboard icon along with a pair of black knit skinny pants.
According to this, and the Society of Women Engineers and the National Academy of Engineering states that realistic clothing that a computer engineer would wear is a binary code t-shirt and black knit skinny pants.
Pants whatever, but binary code t-shirt? I didn't know those were things you just see every computer engineer wearing these days, is this part of the dress code?

LMAO! It's funny you should mention it because if you look at her screen, the binary follows a pattern as follows:

01000010 01100001 01110010

01100010 01101001 01100101

Translated to integers, this reads:

66 97 114
98 105 101

Then traslated into askii:

B a r
b i e

So the screen essentially reads "BarbieBarbieBarbieBar"

Not the most scandalous secret message, but a secret message nonetheless.

Hahahahaha, as subtle as that is, it's hilarious that they actually put something on there useful.

I wonder if any person who plays with her would pick up on that?

I'm kind of curious as to what "realistic computer engineering" accessories will be sold with this theme of Barbie. :P

I was wondering the same thing... they seem to have already screwed up the computer. So according to the Barbie folks, we code in and read everything in binary on a regular basis? Haha, yeah, thats one of my hobbies is to not use editors, not to type source code, not to compile int object code, and skip the linker, I code Zero's and Ones then save it as .exe hahahah. They seem to forget that we see everything in Matrix code too ;)

I think it is a good idea and all... the whole "getting young girls into computers" thing. I believe that they are on the right track, but are mucking around in things they know nothing about. They should have chosen her to be a consultant or something... All I'm saying is that the barbie might be misleading to young children as to what the career is like.

Apparently we all have small leather vests and headset microphones on all the time as well...
