Hi guys. I'v downloaded the Visual c++ express edition, and i'm using it now. I recently saw there is another verision of visual c++, the proffesional one. I thought maybe visual studio proffesional is only offering new fetures, that don't necessarily related to the c++ compiler, like c# or things like that. Am I right? or is the visual studio pro has c++ fetures that the express edition don't have?

With the express editions you have to download a different version for each language C++, VB, C# and one for web development. With the full edition you can use the same program for all things. You will also get some extra features, im not sure what they are, but its probably some tools for testing, drawing diagrams(UML) and stuff like that, maybe improved debug tools aswell.

So, does it worth the money, or is it free like express?

Use the express edition, at least for now. It'll suit your needs. If and when you need the professional version you'll know.

TBH i don't really know that much about it, but i belive that it is pretty expensive. I also belive that the benefits you get are mostly usefull for very big and complex systems, and for working with large teams.
But thats just the impression i've got from reading
very little about it.

Visual Studio 2010 is in open beta right now, so if you stay with express you can get that when it comes out. It'd probably be more expensive then 2008, but then you save on upgrade price. On the other hand, VS2008 is a very, very good IDE and it'll be fine to use for anything you make.

VS2010 is just a beta at the min so it's free. You can also get vs2008 pro free if your a student by goin to the microsoft dreamworks page or if your school is part of the msdnaa (microsoft developers network academic alliance). You can do alot with express so dont sweat it if you cant upgrade, ppl make great games with it every day....

I'm not sure about the pro edition but the team edition has a bunch of extra stuff you wouldn't need at this point. It has a bunch stuff for working on collaberative projects. Including support for Visual Sourcesafe, which is very good for source control.

I was initiated into UPE through my CS department and now have an ACM subscription, so Visual Studio Professional is free to me.
