Y'know, I've never asked! Anybody here certified? Anybody ever been certified?

Discuss! ;p

Gyro and I were bother certified when we were younger. Or Biological father was an instructor's instructor's instructor (however-the-fuck that works. Like, I think he was on a board that certifies certifies or some weird shit...) Anyway, when I was 8, I got my certification. Before long, I had my deep sea, night, and solo as well. Looking back on it, I'm not sure how legal that was with my age...But whatever. XD

Haven't gone in years, and have no idea if my certification still holds (I got a last name change since, and know you need to renew every four years.) But one of these days, when I get the cash, I'm definitely getting my ass out there and do it again. Never been ocean diving, though.

PADI dive master, 292 dives. If you have not dived for 12 months you need what they call a refresher course
yeah it was not completely legal, depending what you did, maui or padi, the age is 10 at a min, i did it at 9 the first time as well.
the best were wreak dives.

Ha! Never knew that avansc, that's pretty neat. I probably had ~50 logged dives in my time. I did get to do a very small amount of cave diving (about 2 dives, wasn't certified for it, but was supervised by "Intructor Biodad." XD)

SO! Get this. My little brother (at the time 7) was about 40 feet under one time and was practicing clearing his mask. Well, he ripped it off his face without any regard to the suction or pressure (I'm assuming he just pulled straight forward?) and ended up busting a vein in his eye. THAT is fucking sick! O.o;

One thing that I always loved was the fact that I could hold my breath for a long time and swim large distances. Falco and I (keep in mind we were 8 and 10) would swim down without gear to a 25 foot platform where classes are usually given (they practice clearing, grabbing the regulator, etc) and just sit there for a moment looking at everybody...Then make the "out of air" sign and steal a few breaths from a random person's reserve.

The regular places I went never had them, but talk-boxes were always badass as well. There was one located at 45 feet that I had a shitload of fun with. Never tried reaching it without gear, though...;p

So what kind of places do you dive at where you live?

In Utah, there was a hot spring inside of a mountain--probably one of the coolest places I've gone. I think it was called Homestead Crater (google shows images that look how I remember). That was 96 degree water year-round!

havent dove for ages, dove off the coast of africa, seychelles, mauritius, thailand, madagascar.
i reached 200 ft. altho 140ft is the basement for most dives at upper levels.

my cousin was a dive instructor, so she gave me plenty free dives. anyways when i did my first thing, think it was called the open water course or something, well it was the french dude. took the group down to 20-30 foot or so. he first yanked at out regs, i chewed on that bitch like it tasted like vagina, so it stayed in my mouth. then at the end of the dive he snuck up and close the tank valve. he was a douce. diving is pretty neat. if you can get on a lively reef its nice. dove with wale sharks before. that was sobering.

What the fuck, dude? You're a diver too? I had no idea there were any other divers on the boards. Awesome, man.

I have been wanting to take the refresher course and get my ass back into the diving scene. It's just very expensive and time-consuming for a student. I doubt I'll be able to go again until I graduate next year.

200 feet!? Dude, that's fucking insane! Nitrogen narcosis much? Lord. At 100 feet I remember wanting to goto sleep peacefully, despite it being cold as all balls in my wesuit. I cannot imagine 200. I think 130 is the cap for most people. ;p

I inquired about an intro course a few months back when I was still in school, but it is expensive as hell and there's no way I could do it right now. It's something I'd love to do at some point in the future though.. along with hang-gliding and sky-diving. ;)

I don't mean to derail this entire thread, but I honestly first read the subject as, "Self Contained Underwear Breathing Apparatus" - to which I was both frightened and intrigued to read further.

Sorry to interject, please continue.
