Elysian Shadows

Hey people, sorry couldnt find an introduction thread so I thought i would post here. Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is mike im a 21 year old university student. Im currently studying software engineering. Like many of you, im new to game development. At uni i have been working in c# and java. Im becoming fairly competent with java but have yet to explore any apis. I have looked at xna which seems to be dead easy, but still cant stop telling myself I should learn C/C++. My goal is really to understand programming at a low enough knowledge to give me power, yet not forget the design and distant look of the development process. Im interested in looking at openGL or SDL once i am confident in the language. Anyway, greetings everyone and i hope i can contribute to this forum.
