My first Painting
I don't even know what it is a painting of. It's some armored guy with a scythe I guess.... I was just practicing metal textures and I guess I decided to turn it into a painting. Like any real painting you are supposed to initial it or sign it in red right? Any ways here's the link. http://s543.photobucket.com/albums/gg47 ... scythe.png

Re: My first Painting
Looking pretty good, my first wasn't that good :P. Yea, usually either First initial, last name, or full name signature in the bottom right corner, with the year and/or date to the right of that. Or so the "famous" artists say.

Re: My first Painting
Thanks lol. I don't usually like painting because it takes a LOT of time for me. I am more of a cartoonist but I thought doing a painting I will be able to get a sense of shading and highlights. But it took me about two days to do this. Just a little long of a project for my stomach. Lol and I got the idea from signing it like that from Bob Ross.MadPumpkin wrote:Looking pretty good, my first wasn't that good :P. Re: My first Painting
Nice.
I think though that you could do with some practice with shading. What might be cool, is if you start with a sketch, colour it in solid blocks of colour, then shade over the top with 2 layers, darken and lighten. If you do that, then you have full control over your lighting, rather than trying to convey shading through colour, you treat shading and lighting as 2 seperate things, drawn seperately. I tend to shade first, then add lighting on top of that. Lots of low opacity brush work, like working with a pencil really, but it's a great way to get a lot of detail in there. When adding lighting, you can fade out and blend - like for curved surfaces, you might draw the highlight all the way around, then use the erasor to reduce that around the curves. Once your all done, it's easy to balance it by tweaking the opacity of each layer.
I like working like that, feels quite organic, like drawing with black and white pencils on coloured paper, you don't need to spend a lot of time or effort to get a decent chrome effect, or some well defined lines on armour, that sort of thing.
