Elysian Shadows

So my main project that i've been working on, and would like to use ES when its released, is to make a sci-fi Shmup RPG, along the lines of Sigma Star Saga or Guardian Legend if anyone remembers these two games. Another game, which is gonna be big influnce on the side scrolling section is Front Mission: Gun hazard for the SNES.

the overhead section, would be melee/sword based, more along the lines of Secret of Mana 2/ Seiken Densetsu 3 as compared to the run and gun of Guardian Legend.

So my question is, if I do get enough skill and get off my ass to make this game a reality, what would you like to see in it?

Horizantal shooter like R-type? Vertical like Ikaruga or Raidant Silver gun?

or should the side scrolling parts be more like Gun Hazard?

Any ideas, suggestions are welcomed.

I like Gun Hazard's grounded shooter style the best. I don't see any reason you couldn't try to make simple prototypes of all three (ground, horizontal flight, vertical flight) and see which one you like best in the context of your other ideas. If you get comfortable enough you could even have the type change in later levels. It's really completely up to you.
