I recently started listening to them a good bit. I didn't realize how badass they were. I particularly enjoy their new album (although lots of others don't).
The ska-y guitar in their later stuff is a huge turn on for me. Dashboard is a good example of what I'm talking about. Some of their shit even has a brass section. Any thoughts on "We were dead before the ship even sank"?

Honestly, their raw emotionality and beautiful take on mundanity is what drew me to them. I love Modest Mouse's later stuff, but what I really really like is their earlier stuff: Edit the Sad Parts, Trailer Trash, other such songs. Just amazing how well they express emotions through not just the lyrics of the song, but the composition as well.
