What Gives?
Has anyone else noticed that bestbuy and circuit city don't sell windows xp computers anymore? I'm getting ready to buy a new laptop and was hoping for windows xp but I guess Ill have to get something offline or install the OS myself, Ugggghhh. Anyways just wondering if anyone out there thought Vista was decent enough to buy. So far I've heard it isnt but I would love to hear your opinions.

I haven't heard jack about Vista SP1 except from my boss who said it fixes a lot of compatibility problems. Also after the learning curve I don't know what's so bad about Vista -- I use it at school.
XP is reliable and sturdy though, except for SP3 which I hear is screwing people up. It should be noted that I haven't heard bad things about a service pack like, ever.
All major retailers sell computers with Vista now. The only way you can get XP shipped on a computer is direct through a manufacturer, and even then you might have to be a business, I don't recall. You can still buy it separately, though... $$$$. Actually, just 3 of them: $$$.
As for vote wise? There's no way that Microsoft is going to dump Vista, so you might as well get it now. Unless you run DOS games. I'm not going to actually vote in your poll, though, since XP is "done" and the only reason to get Vista currently is that MS would be stupid to drop it.. but that's a big reason, otherwise it'll cost you like $300 later (XP is still 199 299 home/pro full version). That's sort of a-both-sides-of-the-issue thing.
Oh, if you go to a major state college, they might give you Vista for free. I can get Ultimate at no cost (I haven't yet because my burner doesn't work though).

I realized the moment I fell into the fissure that the book would not be destroyed as I had planned.
Thanks for the reply. So far I have one vote for XP.
I think I'll go ahead and get the Vista laptop jsut because it will probably be 17 steps up from my parents which is what I am using. I think I'll be ordering it either this weekend or next. Then there's the alternate reality of me gatting an Xbox 360 (pretty doubtfull at this point). Wow I just realized that I have never saved my money in my life... Is that a problem?
