thetechherald wrote:A giant wind turbine in the UK was left mangled and broken this week after it was apparently struck by a nimble and fast-moving unidentified flying object, according to a number of nearby eyewitnesses.
The 290ft turbine in question, one of many producing green energy on a densely populated wind farm in Conisholme, Lincolnshire, was struck early on Sunday morning, with the impact tearing off one its 65ft blades and twisting a second out of shape. The blade that was torn free has not been recovered by authorities.
While the almighty noise of the impact woke nearby residents, dozens of witnesses had already come forward claiming to have seen bright lights hanging in the sky above the wind farm in the hours immediately prior to the collision.
Dorothy Willows, a pensioner living only half-a-mile from the wind farm, told The Sun newspaper that she saw “strange lights†above the farm as she drove past in her car. Mrs. Willows also said she observed “a low flying object†that was “skimming across the sky towards the turbines.â€
According to comments made by other witnesses, the strange lights appeared to be something akin to fiery flying balls that seemed to effortlessly move around amongst the turbine towers.
Another witness, Mr. John Harrison, even said he watched on as a “massive ball of light with tentacles†moved out of the sky and went right down to the ground on the wind farm. “It was huge,†he said. “With the tentacles it looked just like an octopus.â€
Dismissing the possibility of extreme weather conditions playing a part in the event, Health and Safety officials from the local council said even the strongest gale would be unlikely to cause the turbine to fail. Similarly, wind farm owner Ecotricity said it has no idea how the turbine lost one of its blades and is opening an investigation.
UFO enthusiasts have said they are “very excited†by the sheer number of eyewitness reports offered ahead of the collision, while the Ministry of Defence has reportedly said it currently has no explanation for what happened in the skies above Lincolnshire.
but what i love the most is that a dude commented to the article saying:

it's kinda stupid, we had a wind turbine near where I lived, and it blew up, it only managed to get into the local press
I don't see what's special about this one.
