If you're into Star Wars, then Star Wars: Glactic Battlegrounds is pretty good. It runs on the same engine as AOE2, and its specs are stupidly low. It's quite old now too, so you might struggle to pick it up, but if you do, it'll be dirt cheap. Also, grab the expansion pack: 2 extra factions, some super powerful new units, and the explosions look prettier. Aside from that, and Age of Empires, I don't play a lot of RTS games, so I dunno what else to reccomend.

My absolute favorite title is Starcraft: Broodwar, though I highly enjoy Command and Conquer, Warcraft, and Age of Empires.
However...I'm interested in picking up a new title...Preferably with decent multiplayer LAN capabilities.
Any suggestions? ;p
Also, the lower PC specs the better. I have a pure shit gfx card.
i dont know how low your specs are but check out world in conflict, medieval 1 & 2 total war and rome total war. The three you named are quite different from the type i play but get company of heroes if you like games where you need a base of sorts. Also galactic battlegrounds is good but is literally aoe with different units and a better campaign
I love Rise of Nations, and will probably play it till I wear the disk out when I get a working desktop that doesn't have vista on it

I think I can program pretty well, it's my compiler that needs convincing!

I wander what programming language anakin skywalker used to program C3-PO's AI back on tatooine? my guess is Jawa :P

As soon as I get a new PC/laptop, I'm picking up an RTS and getting some friends over for an LAN party, havn't done that in a while... Plus my friends were making fun of me cause my idea of a great party is apparently a LAN party, although I think Kaitlyn who was making fun of me would enjoy one too but she doesn't socialize with the people she should to play videogames with.... anyways </rant>

Agreed
Rise of Nations is awesome... has a lot of features, goes beyond the ages of AgeOfEmpires 2 (which is still the best for me xD), and has great capabilities to play multiplayer, online or by LAN!
You should try it
